“Great choice!” Summer beams at me and pulls me under an archway towards a lethal-looking slalom course. Which is being hosed down. Fantastic.

“I’m going to die, aren’t I?”

“It’s guaranteed. At some point. But probably not tonight, MT, so lighten up! I’ll race you. One… Two… Three… GO!”

Summer takes off at lightning speed, agile and fast on her feet as I stumble after her at a snail’s pace by comparison. After the slippery slalom, there’s all manner of obstacles and challenges that I manage to face, and much to my surprise, I mostly stay on my feet. Even when I do fall over, I remain on the raft and mostly dry.

“Oh my god! I love this song!” Summer yells, as the opening bars of Nickleback’s ‘Something In Your Mouth’ begins.

“Me too!” A new voice screams from behind me, making me jump.

Summer runs over to the new girl and the two of them jump up and down, squealing and hugging and belting out the lyrics. They upset the balance of the raft, and I struggle to stay out of the water.

Frowning, I take in the newcomer.

She’s a little shorter than me I think, so pretty tiny. She’s curvy and beautiful.

“Come join us, MT!” Summer calls to me, holding out her hand. I do join them, even though I don’t want to. I feel a…possessiveness in my chest that I don’t like. Summer looks so free and easy dancing with that girl. She never looks like that with me.

“Hi, I’m Camari, but everyone calls me Cami,” the girl grins at me. She has brown hair with red highlights, and her eyes are a really unusual swirl of green and yellow. There’s something almost feline about them.

“Hi.” A little of the tightness in my chest recedes when I realise that she seems nice.

“Jesus Christ! Move your fat asses out of my way! You’re holding up the line!” a harsh voice barks out.

I turn to see…me…I mean, obviously it’s not me, but this girl standing with her hands on her hips looking pissed off could be my double. Or my double from a few hours ago before Summer gave me my makeover. She has white blonde hair, dark eyes like mine, and she’s a similar height and build.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” Cami says. “Are you in a hurry to get to the end of the course?”

“I just don’t see the point in standing here watching you idiots prance around. If you want to go dancing, hit the club,” she snipes.

Cami gives her a lethal-looking grin.

“And if you want to get wet, hit the water!”

Cami reaches out, plants her hands on the blonde’s chest and pushes. Summer howls with laughter when the blonde doppelgänger hits the water with an almighty splash.

“That bitch made me miss the end of my song!”

I can’t help but laugh, and join them both as they dance to the next song.

Maybe parties aren’t so bad after all.
