Jo followed Cora to the back door and stepped onto the porch after her. The two stood by the railing, looking out at the trees on the horizon blocking the water from this side of the house.

“I’m really sorry for what I said to you yesterday, Jo. It was out of line and selfish.”

Jo turned her head to see her sister already looking at her, remorse clouding her features.

Jo reached over and took her sister’s hand in hers and squeezed it as she turned her face in the direction it was previously. “It’s okay,” she assured Cora. “We all say things in the heat of the moment.”

“I shouldn’t have said what I did in the heat of the moment or not,” Cora shot.

Jo could tell that her sister truly regretted what she’d said, and she appreciated her efforts to accept her actions and not make excuses for them.

“Cora, we’ll have misunderstandings, and we’ll have disagreements, but at the end of the day, we’re sisters. I really don’t want us to go back to the way things were before Dad’s death,” she reasoned.

Cora gave her a smile of gratitude, but the glint in her eyes told Jo she wanted to say more on the matter.

“Tracy called,” she added quickly.

Cora’s eyes widened in surprise and interest. “Oh, yeah? What did she say?”

At this, a wide grin broke out on Jo’s face. “Well, she’s forgiven me for not telling her, and I guess you can say we’re back to normal,” she beamed.

“Wow, that’s wonderful, Josephine. I’m happy that you guys are back to where you once were. Now, the two of you can start processing all these emotions together.”

Jo smiled. “What about you and Jules?” she asked before she could stop herself.

At the mention of Jules, Jo noticed Cora’s smile slipped a bit.
