Jo trained her eyes on Daniel, whose unwavering gaze was already on her. “I can’t deny that I am attracted to you, but I think it would be best if we take things slow… like really slow and continue being just friends for now.”

Daniel nodded in understanding. “I get it,” he spoke, giving her a reassuring smile.

The two sat in silence, ruminating on all that had been shared.

“You know,” Daniel started slowly, causing Jo to look over at him. “I got divorced because my ex-wife cheated on me, and you are the first woman in more than a decade that I’ve felt a spark with.”

Jo widened her eyes in surprise.
