“I was going to ask you to join me for lunch tomorrow. I’m going to Miami to meet with a hotel supplier rep and thought I’d look you up. You mentioned maybe needing my help with a marketing campaign.”

“Yes, I did. We’re preparing for a fundraiser later in the year. If you’re interested, I’d like to talk to you about the group.”

“I’d like that,” she said, pleased by the idea of using her talent in this new way.

A warm feeling washed through her when his lips curved, and she knew behind the sunglasses he wore, his blue eyes were shining with approval.

When she returned to the house, Livy and Brooke were in the kitchen.

“Glad you’re here,” said Livy. “Brooke and I were discussing whether we should go out tonight or stay in.”

“Either is fine with me. I ran into Shane, and I’m going to meet him in Miami tomorrow. He’s going to tell me all about the non-profit he’s working on.”

“Livy and I were discussing our ideas for the Inn, and we don’t think Gran should know what we’re thinking about for changes until final decisions are made,” said Brooke.

“We don’t want Gran and John to worry about anything. Especially now when they’re beginning to pack for their trip,” Livy explained.

“Agreed,” said Charlotte. “No matter how much they might like the idea of changes being made, they might find it stressful.”

Just then, Austin came into the room.

“I’m here to discuss…” he stopped when Gran appeared at the entrance to the kitchen.

The three women looked at one another in a panic.

Livy jumped to her feet. “Discuss my cookies?”

Austin gave her a surprised look.

“You men are all alike. Can’t get enough of Livy’s baking,” said Charlotte, sending him a warning look to play along.

Gran walked over to them. “Everything all right?”

“Yes, Austin is here begging for more of Livy’s cookies,” said Charlotte hoping the others would continue to play along. Gran was suspicious of computers, didn’t understand them, and got nervous with the lingo. If she knew what they were planning with new computer programs, she might rebel.

Gran beamed at them. “Cookies, huh? You know what they say. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.”

Charlotte laughed at the surprised glances between Livy and Austin.

“I’m on my way to Liz’s house for a glass of wine. I’ll see you later,” said Gran.

“Have fun,” Charlotte said, giving her a jaunty salute.

After she left, Austin took a seat at the kitchen table. “What was that all about?”

“We’re trying not to overwhelm Gran and John with all the changes we want to make to the Inn,” said Livy.

“I get it.” He grinned at her. “But about those cookies …”
