Livy shook her head. “I’m keeping all options open.”

“Me, too,” Austin said. “I started my business while I was still in college. It took off, and I’ve been working day and night ever since. Now that it’s been sold, I have a lot of choices as to what I’m going to do next. Something in the computer industry, probably.”

“Does that mean you’ll go back to California after the summer?”

“Not necessarily. Research and development can happen anywhere.”

Their wine came, temporarily halting conversation while Austin sampled it. With his approval, the waiter poured a glass for her and then filled Austin’s glass and left.

After sipping the wine, Livy studied Austin. He looked nothing like a stereotypical geeky guy. He was of average height, muscular, and nice-looking with gray-blue eyes that drew attention.

“So, you don’t know what you’re doing after the summer,” he commented. “What about Charlie?”

“You’ll have to ask her yourself,” said Livy, realizing he must still have a thing for Charlotte. If that was the case, she wanted nothing to do with Austin’s plans to pump her for information. It was good to know where she stood. Livy decided to relax and enjoy the evening.

They easily fell into a conversation about what she perceived was needed in the Inn, especially with new computer programs.

By the time they finished the last of their key lime pie, Livy was as relaxed as she’d been in ages.

The ride back to the cove was pleasantly quiet. Livy liked the fact that she had no need to impress anyone, keep a conversation going, or think about any future dates. Austin had been fun but honest about the reason he’d asked her out. She’d already made a mental note to tell Charlotte that Austin was still interested in her.
