CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

LIVY

The best thing about being just friends with a guy was that she could truly relax. And being away from her mother’s expectations was even better. As far as her mother was concerned, Livy was spending a summer working at the Inn with no prospects in sight. That’s how she intended to keep it.

Sitting with Eric in the Pink Pelican restaurant, Livy laughed at one of his corny jokes. If you didn’t know that he was a doctor held in high regard, you might guess he was a computer nerd.

The restaurant was cute, with its pink walls displaying a collection of pictures and photographs of pelicans. Pelican salt and pepper shakers, glasses with images of pelicans on them complemented the “neighborhood bar” feel to the place. Livy sipped her beer and ate her grouper sandwich.

“I talked to Shelby last night,” Eric said. “She’s hoping you’ll consider providing baked items to her restaurant. She tasted your cookies and loved them. I did, too.”

Livy returned his smile. “Thanks, but I’m not sure what I’m going to do in the future. Right now, my cousins and I are concentrating on the Inn. We’d like to turn things around there, bring it back to its former glory.”

“What happened to it?” asked Eric. “It’s been a nice place, an acceptable addition to the cove.”

Livy shrugged. “Nothing serious. I think Gran and John are just tired of running it. And they haven’t done much to keep it up to speed in the wi-fi arena.”

“Austin said he’s donating time and equipment to help you. He’s generous.”

“Yes,” Livy said. “All of us cove kids are pretty good guys.”

Eric’s eyebrows lifted. His gaze swept over her, and he grinned. “Guys doesn’t refer to some of us.”

Even as she felt heat rise to her cheeks, Livy laughed. It felt so satisfying to be appreciated for something other than her cooking.
