“Bye Peter,” I say as I walk away listening to him laugh.

I feel myself again as I walk out of the shower. My body, face, and hair are clean. I put on a tank top and sweatpants as I sit at the vanity and put my products in my hair and started the tedious job of combing and detangling my hair. Finally, two hours later I start the two strand twists that I’ll keep in for a couple weeks at least. Whoever said this natural hair game was for everyone was telling a bold-faced lie, this is not for the faint of heart.

I'm finally done with my hair and half the day is gone. Full and exhausted from the light lunch while I was doing my hair, I put on my bonnet and take a nap.

A few hours later I wake up feeling refreshed and to my phone alerting me to messages and emails. There are some automatic reply emails from some of the apartments I emailed. Texts from the kids and my dad that I respond to before they send out the national guard, as if I can’t take care of myself. And finally, a text from Joshua with a time and address, he also tells me to dress casually.

We set the date for that Friday. That gives me time to begin to look for an apartment to live in while waiting for my house to be built. We naturally commence to texting and calling like we’re in a relationship. He makes me feel like a teenager falling asleep on the phone because we don’t want to hang up. Getting a good morning text every morning and a call every night without fail is beginning to spoil me. Having never really dated in my life, since I was in a relationship at nineteen years old there really was no pursuing going on there, and this change of pace is refreshing. I have been out all day, looking at apartments, filling out paperwork at the college and now I am running behind.

I check the time and see that there is just about two hours for me to get dressed and get to dinner. I really need my belongings in New York to get here, but until there is a place to put them there is no point having it shipped here. Getting a social life was the last thing I expected to have a when I got here, and my wardrobe is struggling to compensate. However, I’ve packed the perfect outfit for tonight and go to get dressed. Ready for the night, I look in the mirror and am pleased with the way the outfit turned out. It’s an olive green off the shoulder romper, with my gold sandals earrings and necklace. My twists up into a faux Mohawk and just put on mascara and my gold shimmery lip gloss, grab my purse and am ready to go.

When I breeze into the lobby, Peter roars with laughter.

“What are you laughing at Peter?”

“I’m just thinking about when you said you might not see him again. How long has it been since you saw him last? A few days?” he says and bursts out laughing again.

I roll my eyes at him. “Who says I'm going to see him?”

“Girl who are you trying to play with? Play lotto don’t try to play me.”

“Fine. Yes, I am having dinner with Joshua.”

“Oh, Joshua, huh? Well Joshua is not playing with you.”

“Meaning?”

“He is in hot pursuit.”

“Whatever, Peter.”

“Listen to what I am telling you little girl. That man has set his sights on you, and he is not wasting any time. Have you ever really been pursued Savannah?”

I snap my eyes up to Peter’s because he’s never called me by my first name before.

“No,” I answer.

He gives me a wry smile and says, “Well, I hope you’re ready for it.”

He grabs my hand, all traces of humor gone as he looks me directly in the eyes and says, “Open your heart to it Savannah. You deserve to be courted and loved. Trust your instincts and gut, but don’t run from something you’ve been praying for. You might have given up hope, but God has other plans for you.” He leans down and kisses me on the cheek,” enjoy yourself this evening and I’ll see you when you get back tonight.”

I look at Peter with tears in my eyes threatening to spill over because he has spoken my innermost thoughts out loud. I have felt an undeniable attraction and pull to Joshua since running into him at the airport but wasn’t sure if I could truly trust the feelings stirring in my gut. Admittedly it seems like things have been at work to continue to thrust me in Joshua’s path.

Telling Peter bye, I head to the valet stand to get in my car. The GPS’ voice begins to melodically lead me to my destination and what could be my future. The address he sent is familiar to me but so much is going on in my mind I can’t figure out why, but when I get close, I realize it’s the subdivision my house is going to be built in.

What kind of date are we going to have out here I wonder? Finally spotting Joshua’s SUV my eyes get are grappling to comprehend what they are viewing. He has a huge tent set up and he is standing beside his car. I park next to his SUV, and in typical Joshua fashion he is at my door hauling me out before I can turn the car off good. When I am standing in front of him, he takes a slow perusal of my outfit. The path his eyes takes sets my skin on fire and it takes a conscious effort to keep breathing.

“You look stunning, as usual.”His grey eyes ruthless in their perusal of me.

“Thank you, Joshua. You’re looking pretty good yourself.”

“Thank you.”

He leads me away from the car with the hand he never released and walks me toward the tent.

“Joshua this is amazing! When did you have the time to do this?”
