“Your server was rude to Savannah and completely disregarded her I guess in hopes of gaining my attention.”
“I’m sorry about that Josh and Savannah let me get you another server.”
He whispers something in her ear, and she is almost in tears as she walks away.
Matt walks off to get us another server and fresh food.
“Joshua, you didn’t have to do her like that; she was almost in tears.”
“She didn’t care how her actions might have affected you, Savvy. I will never tolerate anyone disrespecting you and you will never need to defend yourself when I am around. That’s my job.”
I almost melted in my seat. He has no idea how much what he said means to me.
“Ok Joshua.”
“What were you going to say before we were interrupted?”
“Before I answer that question, I have one of my own.”
“Go ahead”
“To what end? Are we gonna be life partners? Stay together until one of us gets tired? Is this something to pass the time for you Joshua? I spent 20 years with a man who claimed he wanted a relationship and wanted to be exclusive but in reality, he didn’t want to be more than fuck buddies.”
“First of all, never bring his ass up to me comparing the selfish shit he wanted with what I’m trying to have with you. Let me be clear so that there is no misunderstanding, your mine. Not until one of us gets tired, not to pass the damn time and if I wanted a life partner, I’d get a dog. We will be together until one of us dies, and if you die before me, you might as well wait before walking in the light because I’m going to be coming right behind you. In this life, in the next life or in death Savannah Errington you will still be mine understand that. I’m not gonna ghost you or disrespect you. I have no desire to cheat or for another woman. You don’t have to tiptoe around me or what you want. Wherever I am you have the right to be there also, and I mean anywhere. You have the right to anything that’s mine, my house, the cars, my cell because I’m too old for games or bullshit and I know my mind and what I want. So, I am going to ask you again, are you ok with being in a real grown-up relationship with me?”
I sit there looking at Joshua because I literally have no words. So, this is how it is to have a relationship with a grown man? Yeah, this shit hits different. And he is dead ass serious sitting across from me expecting an answer.
“Yes, Joshua I want to be in a relationship with you.”
His face breaks into a smile and he leans over and kisses me. As soon as he sits back down our new server comes over with our food and sets it down like he has some sense. He asks if there anything else we need and walks away. We eat and talk and reflect on the amazing date he has taken me out on.
“When do we leave to get your stuff?”
“Joshua?”
“Don’t Joshua me, Savannah. I know you’re not used to this type of relationship or this type of man, but you better get used to it, baby, ‘cause that’s what you have now. There is no way I am going to see you go home and do all this stuff plus drive yourself back here to Mississippi while I am sitting my ass at home. It’s not going to happen.”
I roll my eyes and open my mouth to get him told when I remember all the nights, I prayed for a man in my life that I could rely on so I would not have to carry the load by myself anymore. And here he is sitting across from me and my dumb ass is about to get him told? Yeah ok.
I tell him my travel itinerary and watch as he pulls out his phone, goes online and purchases a ticket for the same flight.
“Where are we staying Savannah?”
I tell him the hotel name and he booked his own room at the hotel. That done, he pays the bill, we say goodbye to Matt and head back to his SUV to head back to the hotel. I came here today single and left with a whole damn man.
