Chapter 12

Joshua

2 months later

I’m tired as hell this project has been kicking our ass. We have had to hire more workers and put in more hours to stay on target. It has interfered with my relationship with Savannah, I definitely do not get to see her as often as I would want to.

When we got back from Richford, we saw each other every day although I stopped spending the night with her, I know I couldn’t resist being inside of her if I kept staying with her. We still go to church every Sunday; I love going with her. But with her teaching now and this project ramping up we do not get to see each other as much. I send her flowers every other day and lunch to the campus for her on her long days at work. I remember the argument we had about the flowers.

“Stop sending me flowers Jag I have a black thumb they just end up dying.”

“No Savannah, enjoy the flowers until they die then.”

“It’s a waste of money Joshua, I don’t care about flowers.”

“You’re lying, Savvy.”

“Excuse you!”

“I have seen you when you get flowers your whole face lights up. You just have gotten used to not getting stuff like that so you’re not disappointed when you don’t get them. Don’t try to play me baby I know you better than you think I do.”

“You don’t know me, Joshua.”

“Yeah, keep telling yourself that lie sweetheart.”

After that she never tried to get me to stop sending her stuff.

It’s hot as fish grease out here today but we are making a lot of progress, all eight of us are here today putting in work. My phone rings and I answer it without looking at who it is.

“Hello. Joshua?”

“General?”

“Yes.”

“What can I do for you General? Is there another class you need me to train?”

“No, is this line secure?”

All my spidey senses go crazy. “It is now”’ I say after I activate the app Jabarri installed on all our phones.

“I need your help”, the General says.

That immediately puts me on alert, and I walk away to someplace quiet to be able to hear better.

“What do you need, General?”

“My daughter is missing. She went on a vacation with some of her girlfriends and was kidnapped.”

“Do you know who took her? Has there been any ransom requests?”

“Yes, we during a mission we tried to apprehend the leader of a terrorist cell, but we ended up with one of his sons instead. They are asking for his release, for my daughters release.”

“So, let the son go and recapture him, once your daughter is released.”

“We would, but his son committed suicide rather than talk to us.”

“Damn. What do you need me to do?”
