“Yes, you do but you won’t ask, and I love you for that. Let’s come to a compromise. I'll cut my working in half if you quit your job.”

“Wait … what?” I ask.

“How is that the same? You’re still working and I’m what sitting at home being Suzy homemaker for you?”

“Really Savannah, Suzy homemaker?”

“Joshua. Baby I am not going to get into an argument with you on our honeymoon, ok.”

“I will tell you this, you have worked your ass off for almost thirty years to give your children everything they needed and most of what they wanted because you had to because you had no support and you did an amazing job with them, Savvy. But you do now, you have support and means baby.”

He lifts me off of him, wait here he tells me. As he walks away, he throws my dress back to me and I try to figure out how it made it all the way over there. A few seconds he comes back and hands me a large thick envelope. I open the envelope and read the paperwork, and I read it again because I can’t be reading what I think I am. I drop the envelope and look at him.

“No Jag,” I say.

“Yes, Savvy.”

“No matter what … that’s yours.

It’s your money Jag.”

“No that’s your money,” he says

I pick the papers back up and look at the amount on the page and tear up. No one has ever offered this kind of security to me. He has given me a large portion of his wealth in an account in just my name, he has also given me a portion of his portion of the company.

“So, when I say quit your job Savannah, it’s not because I want you home waiting for me, do whatever you want to do whatever dream or desire you had but couldn’t pursue because you were the primary provider for your children.”

I look at him with tears running down my face and cannot form words to express the emotions I am experiencing right now.

“You are always reading. Hell write a book.”

“A book?”

“Yes, hell write our story,” he suggests.

“Yeah right,” I say.

“Why not?” He asks, and I have no answer for him.

“I better not see you using that money.”

“What? How are you gonna give me that money and then don’t use it.”

“Savvy that is your money we have our money and that is the money you are to use. The money I gave you is your safety net. I am still the damn provider around here. The fuck?”

I get up to walk in the kitchen to grab a snack. “Yes daddy,” I say sarcastically.

But when all I get is silence, I turn to see what happened and when I look at Jag there is so much heat coming off I think hell might be a person instead of a place. I take a step back even though I am already across the room.

“Stop playing with me Savannah.”

Oh, so that’s a trigger for him. Good to know. “How was I playing Jag?” I ask innocently.

“You know exactly what the fuck I am talking about Savannah.” I just stand there looking at him all wide and innocent. “Ok Savvy, you got that. Try that shit tonight and see what happens,” he says as he goes to sit down.

Now I am a relatively intelligent person but sometimes I let bravado and stupidity take over, so I’m not surprised when I open my mouth and say, “Yes daddy.”

Only I don’t get daddy out all the way because I find myself up against the refrigerator with a hand around my neck.
