“No, take the towel to the bathroom hamper and return to the sofa.” So she came from a pack with an alpha who not only had servants but associated with others who did the same. And on the western side of the Sierra since she’d come through the pass.

Sawyer filled the sink with hot water and suds, and we added all the dishes from both this late-night snack and our dinner earlier. We didn’t take long, but it was long enough for one very tired wolf girl to tumble over the edge of exhaustion into sleep.

My mate joined me where I stood looking down at her. “Poor thing. What do you think brought her here?”

“We’ll have to wait until morning to find out.” Even if I was going to be the mean alpha, I still pulled a crocheted afghan from the back of the couch and tucked it around her. “She’s young to be on her own. And lucky we’re the ones who found her. If it had been a rogue—”

“Don’t even think about it. Let’s get some rest ourselves.” He reached down and tucked a lock of pale-blonde hair behind her ear. “She’s pretty.”

“Yes.” I took my mate’s hand. “But I think we’ll have to put off our plans for tonight. You know how noisy you get when I fuck you.”

“Uh-huh. It’s all me. I’m tired anyway. But don’t think you’re getting out of it.” His eyes sparkled with laughter.

“I don’t know. It’s a lot of work to meet your demands, mate.” Lifting his fingers to my lips, I kissed them. “It’s starting to snow. I don’t think we’ve avoided that storm.”

“Well, we need the water. It’s been a dry year.”

“Looks like the drought is easing.”
