Chapter Four

Sawyer

My mate’s embrace surrounded me as the warm water poured over us, cleansing away the sweat of the day’s labors, but nothing could wash away the fact I could not give him his heart’s desire. Tadeo was born to be a father. I often came upon him playing soccer with some of the young ones, a sport he’d enjoyed growing up and had made popular among local packs. Visitors who had the opportunity to see our children in action were excited to introduce the game at home. We might be the only wolf shifters who had a youth soccer league.

Tadeo had been in love with a female years ago, when quite young, but she’d chosen someone else, a fact he said now was fated or he’d never have found me, but she would have given him many children, unlike me. It ripped at my heart not to be able to fill every one of his desires, especially this one, even though he insisted we should be happy with our lives, grateful for what the Goddess gave us, and not tempt fate by wishing for more.

How could I not though? When this one blessing remained out of reach.

Pack was family, true, and Tadeo and I were family to one another, and perhaps our destiny was to put all our love and care into each other and those over whom we were alpha. The Goddess knew best, and she had given us more than anyone should dare to ask for already.

I reached for the controls and turned off the sprays. “You’re clean enough. Let’s eat?” I didn’t think either of us would be in the mood for more now, but I should have known better.

Tadeo stepped away from me and reached for a towel. “I’m clean enough, and hungry but not for steak—not yet.”

“It’s very good steak,” I reminded him.

“And you’re very naked and warm and right here with me.” My mate patted me with the fluffy towel. “And naked.”

“You said that already,” I said, about the time he was paying special attention to my stiff rod. “Do we want to go to the bedroom?”

He knelt in front of me to continue his drying. “I’m not sleepy.” Closing his fist around my cock, he looked up my body, dark eyes ablaze with lust. “You’re sure worried about things like eating and sleeping today.”

“No, I’m—” My mate’s mouth closing around the tip of my dick, his tongue tickling the hole, shut off my ability to speak. Instead, I threaded my fingers through his hair and braced my feet wider apart to stay upright. Tadeo’s oral skills were beyond gifted, and if I didn’t lock my knees, I’d be on the floor.

He never rushed, either. Even if we had to be somewhere in an hour, he licked and nibbled and sucked on my cock as if it was the first time, and we had unlimited time. Tadeo cupped my sac in one palm, rolling and tapping my balls in a way uniquely his and guaranteed to make me crazy. His other hand still gripped the bottom of my shaft, holding it steady while he did his best and his worst to shatter my mind while keeping me from reaching orgasm until he thought I’d suffered enough.

I stood too far from the shower wall to use it for support, and my legs were getting closer to giving out with each juicy slap of his tongue on my head, each suckle taking me deep into his throat. His teeth scraped my skin, never breaking it but creating rivers of fire in their wake. So good. So bad. So incredible.

“Mate, I can’t—I can’t hold out.”

He released me and gave my balls a hard squeeze. “You can and you will. I’m not done here.”

“My gods, you like to torture me.”

“Yes.” And he was back at it, sucking harder, taking me deeper, my whimpers in counterpoint to his sucking sounds. The river-rock stall echoed it all back until I was swaying, all of my senses engaged, my mind fully occupied with not coming yet. As if it was in my control. Then he gave me a nod, and my cum jetted into his waiting mouth. He drank it down, one of his sexiest moves, while continuing to squeeze my sac—milking me dry.

Fifteen minutes later, we sat on the barstools at the counter between kitchen and living room, eating steak sandwiches and drinking beer. He’d turned me down for returning the favor of a blowjob, squeezing my ass in a way that let me know he had other plans for later tonight. I shivered in anticipation. We were both alphas, but for him, I’d bend over any piece of furniture we had, ass cheeks spread for him. I’d never let anyone else fuck me—and neither had he.

“Busy day tomorrow?” I asked, the ranch and its business never far from my mind. “I hear there’s a storm blowing in soon.”

“Yeah, I can feel it.” He took a deep draught before continuing. “We’re pretty prepared, but there’s always more to do.”

“Isn’t that the truth?”

Our ranch and our people were our life, and we took pride in not losing cattle in the storms that could drop feet of snow even in autumn in these parts. Young stock didn’t always have the ability to protect themselves, and it was our job to help until they could. “I thought I’d take a few of the teens with me tomorrow. We may need to do fence repair in one section, and I could use some extra hands.”

“And they can use the experience.” Not that he wasn’t already thinking that way. Tadeo considered it critical to train our youth as soon as they were old enough to take on some responsibility. Playing hard and working hard were in his DNA, and he shared his enthusiasm for both with our pack members but especially the kids.

They adored him and would do anything for him, always trying to find ways to be around him more. If he invited them to repair a fence or shovel dung, few would refuse.

“Yes. Not all of them will want to ride the range, but those who do will be ready when the time comes.” He twirled his beer bottle between his hands. “Although Ryan and Enda will be leaving soon.”

For college. Next fall. My tenderhearted mate would miss them though. As would I. “Not for nearly a year.” I rested my head on his shoulder. “And we will be proud that we can provide the education they seek.”

“Of course.” He offered me a wry smile. “Do you think they will return after?”

I wanted to reassure him, but we held honesty between us as a standard in our relationship. “I don’t know, but I hope so. And they will visit on their breaks. Probably.”

“Probably.” He sighed.

If we had our own child, Tadeo would still love all the rest and miss them if they were gone, but the greatest source of his sadness would no longer lie in his soul.Goddess, why can’t I give him what he needs?

“Let’s go for a walk under the stars before bed.” I stood and reached for him. “The dishes can wait.”

“They’re not going anywhere. It’s my lest favorite household chore. I think for our next anniversary I will buy you a dishwasher.”

“Not if you want my ass anytime in the year after that.” I smacked a kiss on his cheek and started for the mudroom at the back. “Unless we’re shifting, we’ll want a jacket. It’s looking frosty out there.”
