The alpha’s comments made me feel good. They couldn’t not, but until he tracked down Crain— A phone rang right outside the bedroom window. I didn’t even have to look to know who it was. Slipping quietly out, I moved around the house to the slope where the bedroom window lay and there he was. Talking on the phone to his alpha.
“Where am I? Out in the wild. What’s up?”
I tapped him on the shoulder. “May I have that phone?” Taking it from him, I addressed Sawyer. “Your lost pack member has been found.”
Sawyer cursed softly. “What is that boy thinking? That following her would make her like him more? I’ll explain the situation and order him home. I apologize for the inconvenience.”
I handed Crain the phone “Your alpha wants to speak with you, and he’d prefer you tell the truth this time.”
As I went back inside, I heard Crain arguing, but he’d obey in the end. Nobody wanted to be rogue for disobeying a direct order. With that off my mind, I found the rest still around the table, talking and laughing. Diana was sparkling with happiness and so was Andrade who had his arm around her. She was on his lap, and I sensed a trend here. We’d found ourselves a lap mate, and outside the window, a gray wolf was loping down the side of the highway with his tail between his legs. Literally.
He probably wasn’t a bad guy, but our mate was not the one for him. I hoped someday he’d find his own, but for now, I’d settle for him leaving us in peace. Moving to stand behind Andrade, I rested a hand on his shoulder where at some point in the night our she-wolf had marked him. She’d marked me as well, and while it wasn’t always traditional for the female to do so, I wore it with pride. Marks from both my mates that would be with me for life.
It took us a year to go on our honeymoon, but now I understood why. We had to be here now. Because that’s when our mate came to us.
The Fates had been more than kind.
The pack would love her as much as we did.
