I could stare, or I could capture this moment on camera. I snapped more pictures, one after another, sometimes directing her to glance over her shoulder at me, or kneel, or pick a flower, but mostly just clicking the shutter.

“Jacket off,” I said.

She set my leather jacket on a nearby wooden wheel half as tall as she was.

“You’re going to fill that memory card.” Her laugh wasn’t carefree, but the fact that she laughed at all was nice. A gust of wind kicked up, tugging at the hair that had come loose when she pulled off my helmet, and whipping it around her face. A few loose leaves stuck in her hair.

I snapped a dozen pictures, then approached to help pull them out. “Don’t move.”

Megan froze in a ridiculous pose. “New game? Am I a mannequin?”

“You can move, just don’t run away.” I plucked a few dried leaves away. When my fingers brushed her temple, along her hairline, sparks raced between us.

Her barely audible gasp, the way she watched me with wide eyes, made the rest of the world stop spinning. Her lips were so close. So tempting. So kissable.

And when she glided her tongue over the bottom swell, I was instantly hard.

We should do number 56. The suggestion froze in my throat. I hadn’t memorized the whole list, but I knew which numbers had to do with sex. 56 was outdoor sex.

Instead of saying anything, I stared. I couldn’t pull my gaze from her. When we made the list she’d like to hear stories about things I’d done and didn’t have a problem with the ones around sex. She hadn’t ever shown any jealousy about my previous partners, but watching her write those things on her list had made me so envious of whoever she’d get to fulfill them with.

And now I was going to skip the chance to suggest one of those things. I was as hard as 1095 steel, struggling not to imagine bending her over and fucking her, and I was going to force myself to let her go and step back.

“Are you all right?” Her pout was faint, which made it that much more irresistible.

I nodded, but I still didn’t pull away. She’d just broken up with her fiancé. The man she’d been seeing for longer than I was willing to remember, and I was considering propositioning her. What the fuck was wrong with me?

Megan raised her brows. “Are you sure?”

“Yeah. I’m fine.”

“I need to know…” With a sigh, Megan dropped her head. “Why didn’t Easton want me?”

“Because he’s blind and an idiot. End of story.”Drop your hand away from her face. Take a step back. I couldn’t move.

Because Ididwant her. So much it hurt. So much I lost sleep over it.

And now was the absolute worst possible time to indulge that desire.

When Nigel brushed my hair from my face, the light touch was enough to make my heart soar.

Kissing him would be wrong. More would be even more wrong. No one would know but us, but it wasn’t appropriate. It wasn’t right.

When he pressed his lips to my forehead, I crashed.

“Easton is an idiot whose opinion isn’t worth shit,” he said softly. “You’re worth more than all of his money. Worth more than he could ever fathom. Never forget that.”

Nigel’s words were sweet. I didn’t believe him, but I liked hearing him say it. Was it wrong that I’d hoped he’d take me, right here?

So very wrong. Because I’d just left my fiancé. The man who promised me forever, and couldn’t even give me today.

The day caught up with me. Why didn’t Easton want me? Despite Nigel’s reassurance, I was stuck on the question. I’d done everything right—acted the way I was supposed to. Didn’t make waves. Was always proper and polite.

Yielded.
