He just threatened Sunny’s mate and is literally a murderer, for fuck’s sake. I have a right to feel some kinda way about that.
“Will?” Rafe asks again, more insistent.
“I’m… I dunno. I’m here. And you jammed a lot of dominance in me to counteract Julian’s, then Sunny’s mojo, so I’m kinda all over the place.”
Julian…
I glance to the vampire king and queen, both now seated on the ground, Julian deep in Eden’s neck, healing whatever damage Drago caused with her blood.
Sunny spins on her heel and glares down at the three of us. “Whatexactlyare we dealing with here?”
Before any of us can answer, Claudia releases her cloaking spell and reappears in front of us. “Yes, what is he? He’s got more magic in his being than I’ve ever seen before.”
Jonah, Rafe, and I share a weighted glance.
“He’s my mate. And he’s also an alpha killer.”
Claudia rubs her hands together, a smile going from one ear to the other. “I’d beveryinterested in talking to him. Do you think you could set that up?”
“Jesus Christ, Claudia, now’s not the time,” Sunny snaps.
Eden lets out a low, throaty groan, drawing everyone’s attention.
“Yeah, they're not just feeding on each other anymore,” Jaxson says.
The unmistakable sound of fabric ripping has us all moving inside at top speed.
We follow Sunny to the first seating area, and I get as close to Rafe and Jonah as I can to counteract the frosty air conditioning.
Seriously, how do people live like this?
Sunny doesn’t sit. She paces the length of the area rug in front of us, collecting her thoughts as Jaxson and Claudia sit in the armchairs flanking the sofa.
“How much of a threat is he?” she asks. “Do I need to warn Titus?”
Jaxson is quick to speak first. “Probably unnecessary. You know how he likes to overreact.”
Sunny’s sharp gaze lasers into him. “From what I just saw, I’d say overreacting might be called for.”
Jonah’s hand falls to my knee as he speaks. “Drago’s job is to take the alpha magic from wolves so he can defeat the scourge that hunts our kind. From my understanding, he’s collected enough magic and is now simply waiting for the scourge to make its move. I don’t think you have anything to worry about.”
Sunny scoffs, rolling her eyes. “He threatened my mate outright.”
“That wasn’t Drago,” I say.
Sunny turns to me. “What does that mean?”
“I don’t know. But I know he’s got more than one soul or personality orsomethingin there fighting for control. I can scent the change in him every time it happens.”
“Semantics. He threatened my mate and I’m duty bound to inform him. I won’t sacrifice—”
Jaxson squirms in his chair. “Sunny, you know what Titus will do if he finds out about tonight.”
Her features pull into a severe frown.
“These wolves need him. You can’t kill their warrior because of some tough alpha talk from a guy who was just trying to find his mate.”
