“Well, I’ve got the chopper on standby for you. I can have it here in ten and get you to the private jet in another ten. Do you think your healer can do something if he gets there in, say, five-ish hours?”

My gut says no.

My years of experience scream that if we tried, both Mari and Drago would suffer immensely.

But Drago would have both arms.

“We can try,” I say. “But it’s up to you, Drago. Is that what you want?”

He nods, slowly. “I can’t be the Champion with only one arm, love.”

Eden pulls a phone out of her cleavage and types a few words. “Chopper’s on its way. I’ll help you get him on board.”

I grab Eden’s hand again. “Thank you. So much.”

She smiles, sapphire gaze brilliant in the moonlight. “You might not be from Laurel Cove, but you’re one of us now, and we take care of each other as best we can here.”

Movement behind her catches my attention.

It’s Jaxson, and he’s running to us fast.

Rafe stands to meet him, but Jaxson waves the gesture away, sinking to the ground with the rest of us.

“How is he?” he asks, deep creases in his forehead.

“He’s gonna make it,” I say. “How are yours?”

Jaxson's gaze goes cold. “We lost a lot of wolves tonight. We have a lot of mourning to do.”

“I’m so sorry. We had no idea—”

Jaxson cuts me off. “Of course you didn’t. But I find it interesting that every wolf slain tonight was an alpha in the same pack.”

He doesn’t even need to finish. I already know where this is going. The Wendigo spelled it out.

“The same pack that with three recently excommunicated members.”

Jaxson stares at me. I can’t read a single thing in those amber wolf eyes.

“One day you’ll have to tell me what the hell happened here tonight,” he says and stands.

“Wait,” I call out as he leaves.

Jaxson turns, looking down at me.

“What about the omegas from that pack? Are they safe? Are they OK?”

The alpha crouches to look me straight in the eye. “They are, Willa Stocklin, of the First Line. And I promise to make sure they stay that way.”

I nod. “You better. Or I’ll be back.”

And the look in Jaxson’s gaze finally reveals something.

He knows I’m dead serious.
