Letting go of his hand she stepped into the room, her eyes passing over the large four poster bed, to the floor to ceiling windows, letting in the sea breeze. There was a small garden outside, which dropped down to the beach.

A wooden fence demarcated the end of the garden from the beach. Letty turned to face Bertram. “It’s very beautiful.”

Bertram took a step closer. “Youare beautiful.”

Letty’s pulse was racing as her skin tingled with anticipation. Her face and neck heated with a flush she couldn’t stop and her hands shook.

This is it. Today, I lose my virginity.

There was a sense of anticlimax about it. She had guarded it so jealously, all these years, never giving in to the pressure to use her body to get the intelligence she needed and now, just by signing a piece of paper, she would give it away.

He took a step towards her, rubbing her arm. “I do not want you to fear. We will not do anything you do not want to do, here today or any day.”

She quirked an eyebrow. “I beg your pardon? Are you trying to say you will not relieve me of my virtue this day?”

“Not if you do not want me to.”

She searched his eyes intently, “You are in earnest, are you not?”

“I am,” he said quietly.

“Why?”

He sighed, bringing up his hand to rub at the back of his neck in a nervous gesture as a flush stained his cheeks. “I know that you have lived a life devoid of choice for a long time. I will not add to that burden. From now on, everything that happens to you will be because you wish it to.”

“I love you.” The words flew out of her mouth, she could not have stopped them if she tried, “and Ichooseto give myself to you.”

He smiled wryly, turning to face her. “You may take some time to think about it?”

“I know. And I thank you. But I am ready.”

He took her hand, looking into her eyes. “Don’t be afraid,” he whispered.

“I-I’m not.”

He nodded, smiling a little. “We have a fire in the grate and a large cauldron. Why don’t I draw you a bath while you get comfortable?”

She quirked an eyebrow. “I already had a bath this morning, Bertram.”

He grinned impishly. “Not like this.”
