“Well,” His Grace said. “I think I shall also take my leave. I’ll write you soon.”

Marcella stood, and as the Duke left the drawing room, she pressed her cheek against her husband’s shoulder. He turned his head towards her, his lips twitching in amusement. “This wasn’t how I anticipated the day going.”

“Me, neither. Are you all right?”

Reginald heaved a sigh. “I don’t know. My heart hurts, but also, I am grateful in some ways. The truth always comes out, and although it hurts sometimes, it’s also very freeing.”

“Yes,” Marcella replied. “I think that’s well-said.”

Reginald took her chin between his fingers and smiled at her, his expression mischievous. “Especially if the truth brought such a lovely lady into my life.”

And Marcella’s toes curled. A delightful shiver rushed down her spine, and as she leaned up to kiss him, Marcella melted into his arms. She would’ve stayed there forever, lost in a moment of utter bliss.
