“I think it’s very important,” Joseph argued. “You were set to break off your engagement. What changed your mind?”
“The fact that I love her,” Michael responded, he waved Joseph off, feeling annoyed. He was not sure why he wanted to avoid telling Joseph the truth, but he was feeling put off by his constant questioning.
Lionel, Ranora, and Kitty spilled into the room, their faces demonstrating a mixture of annoyance and concern.
“Michael, what happened?” Lionel asked. “We were so concerned, are you all right?”
“Yes, I’m fine,” Michael assured him. He pulled the license out of his pocket and held it up. “I’m getting married tonight and I will need all of your help to make it happen.”
Ranora’s mouth dropped open, uncharacteristically for her. Kitty’s shocked expression made her look horrified, as though he had announced someone’s death. Only Lionel beamed.
“Michael, that’s fantastic!” he cried, reaching forward to shake Michael’s hand. “I am extremely happy for you. What can we do?”
