“It hardly seems possible.”

“Yet here we are. Do you still want to go back to the house? Or we could celebrate.”

“We’ve already had dinner and a movie. What do you have in mind?”

“Whatever you’d like. Grab some drinks. Walk along a lake in the moonlight. As long as we’re together, we can do anything.”

Ariana yawned. “I’m getting tired. What do you think of going to the house and having some drinks to celebrate our good news with Lia and Charles? Then we can go to bed.”

“Sounds perfect.” He gave her a lingering kiss before getting back on the road.

At the house, Lia’s car was there but Charles’s wasn’t.

“Did they go somewhere?” Ariana asked.

Damon glanced at the house as he pulled up to the curb. “There are a few lights on. I think Lia’s home.”

Sobbing sounded as soon as Damon opened the front door.

Ariana dropped her purse and ran toward the crying.

He followed her and found his wife on the couch with an arm around Lia.

“What’s the matter?” he asked.

“We had a fight.” Lia wiped her eyes.

“What about?” Damon sat on her other side and rested a hand on her arm.

“I don’t know. It was so out of the blue, and then he stormed out of the house ordering me not to follow him.”

“He ordered you? That doesn’t sound like him.”

Lia shook her head. “It’s not like him.”

“How did the fight start?” Ari asked.

“I said something about making steaks for dinner tomorrow, and he blew up at me. Something about the rising costs of everything.” Lia sniffled. “It was such a shock. He’s never freaked out like that before.”

“Is money tight?” Damon asked. “Do you need us to kick in for anything?”

“No. That’s just it. Everything’s going great. He just sold another script. There’s even talk of Spielberg getting involved with this one.”

“Whoa,” Ariana said. “Seriously?”

“Nothing’s set in stone, but they think this one’s going to be huge.”

Damon tried to make sense of it. “Then why is he getting upset over steaks?”

Lia shrugged. “That’s what I’d like to know.”

“Want me to give him a call?” Damon asked.

“I don’t think he wants to be bothered.”

“If he’s going to treat you like that, I have no problem bothering him. In fact, he has it coming.”

Lia gave him a grateful smile. “If he snaps at you, don’t feel obligated to keep talking to him.”
