“Hold on,” I said, still catching up to Amelia’s thought process. “If his victims’ spirits are attached to Eli, then wouldn’t that mean…?” I stared at Vira, horrified.

Her expression remained blank. “Then your biological father is attached to him, too.”

CHAPTER32

Dorian

Groaning,I rubbed my biceps. “My arms are killing me.”

“Wimp,” Victor muttered, though he’d done his fair share of complaining earlier.

“It was a good workout,” Jorge said. “And you got well-fed as payment.”

Nathan had roped us into helping his friend move furniture to his new place. He hadn’t told us the new place was on the top floor of an apartment block. It felt like we’d been carrying beds up steep flights of stairs for eternity.

I was more than happy to be heading home, but I’d had fun, too. It wasn’t often that we got to spend time away from the pack, no harbingers or anything else to worry about.

We dropped Jorge and Victor home first. Nathan watched them go inside then nodded at me. “They get along better than I expected.”

I climbed into the front passenger seat. “Victor hasn't avoided going home once since he moved in with Jorge.”

“We should bring them next time to go to see a match.” He drove home, humming under his breath. He and Perdita were still walking on air, despite the frequent sleepless nights.

Back home, Diane was napping in Perdita’s arms.

“Ah, now,” Nathan teased. “No wonder she doesn’t sleep at night.”

“Don’t be jealous,” she said. “Just because I got here first. Dorian, Margo’s over with Amelia. Can you walk her home or should she call her parents to pick her up?”

“I can drop her off,” Nathan said.

“I’ll see what she wants to do,” I said. “See you later.”

I headed straight over to Byron’s, but Margo came outside and wandered away. Concerned, I called her name. She looked back at me as though in a daze.

I jogged over to her. “You okay?”

She shrugged, her face pale and wan, as it had often been before.

I touched the back of my hand to her cheek. It was warm, and I heaved a sigh of relief. “Just checking,” I explained.

“Oh.”

“Did something happen?” I asked. “You seem off.”

“I was talking to Amelia and Vira about Eli.” She wrapped her arms around herself. “I’m a little rattled. It’s complicated, but we think that harbingers who murder end up somehow stuck with the murdered spirits.”

“That’s messed up,” I said.

“It’s worse than that,” Margo said. “I see spirits all around Eli now, so that means he’s killed multiple times.” She bit her lower lip. “He killed my biological father.”

Which meant her biological father was trapped with his killer. How incredibly unfair.

“It’s no big deal,” I said. “I mean, it is, but you can fix this.”

Margo met my gaze, her eyes emotionless.

I reached for her hand. “You’ve helped spirits pass on before. You can do it again. If we can set you up with a chance, you can help the people Eli murdered. You can be that bridge for them and help them move on.”
