Her orgasm hits her hard and I watch as her face explodes into one of such beauty I can only watch and admire as she rides the orgasm that I created.

My own isn’t far away and as I shoot deep inside her, I hope one of them finds its mark. I want to watch her body swell with my child. I want a large family with the woman I love, and I hope she’s up for that because the future I imagine with her is filled with laughter and fun. I will buy her that house on the water’s edge and I will make her happy. It may be a little more guarded than most, but we will script our own future, which reminds me I still need to deal with my past first.

Leaving Charlotte to take a shower,I head to the kitchen to fetch us a couple of coffees. Now everyone has left, there is a skeleton staff that always remains but I’m in no mood for conversation today.

I sense a storm approaching and can’t shake the premonition that something is badly wrong. As I wait for the coffee machine to work its magic, I put in a call to my father, deciding to come clean and tell him I’m on my honeymoon and deal with the shit he throws when it lands.

Strangely, there’s no answer and that worries me. There’s always an answer, even if it’s his hated voice on a message.

I must have the wrong number and try again, but for the second time, silence.

Feeling antsy, I call his second in command knowing that Konstantin will tell me where he is and once again, I’m met with silence.

I check my signal and note it’s strong and briefly wonder if the lines are down in Russia. When I look again, I see a voice message I must have overlooked from my cousin, George. It’s unusual for him to call me. We’ve never really been close, and he was the lucky one and got a desk job in the Kremlin rather than be sucked into the family business.

He simply asks me to call him as soon as I get the message, and something tells me this call will change everything.

This time he answers on the second ring and says urgently,“Ivan.”

“What’s happening? I can’t reach my father.” I don’t hang around and he says in a low voice.

“Where are you?”

“Out of the country.” The fuck I’m telling him where I am, and he sighs heavily.

“Thank God for that.”

“Why?”

There’s a short silence and then his voice softens, and he says with a deep sigh,“I’m sorry, Ivan, your father was killed yesterday in a brutal attack.”

I hear his words, but they don’t really register, and I don’t know how to react. George fills in the silence and says in a grim voice,“It was a consolidated attack on his home and businesses. They were all wiped out. There’s nothing left.”He falters before whispering,“You no longer have a bratva family, Ivan. You’re on your own.”

On my own. How I’ve longed to hear those words my entire life and George says urgently,“Was it you? Was this your work? It’s important to discover who did this.”

“You think I killed my own fucking family?”

I’m incensed because I’ve imagined slaughtering my father hundreds of times, but I would never harm the soldiers that have worked with us for many years. They are loyal and deserve protection, not to go down with the ship.

“I’m sorry I had to ask. It’s just, well, there are questions being asked and the fact you were missing causes concern.”

“I’m on my fucking honeymoon. Is that ok with the Kremlin?”

He laughs softly.“Congratulations cousin, pass on my best wishes to your bride because she’ll need all the help she can get.”

“So, what happens now?” My mind is racing at a million miles an hour and he says with a sigh.

“I’d stay where you are. The dust will settle and any inheritance you are owed will be paid into your account. You may want to organize a remembrance service when you return, but I would advise against a funeral until we find out who’s responsible.”

“Any ideas?” He must have one because he deals in secret shit for the Kremlin, and he sighs.

“Nobody is admitting to anything. It’s a huge shock to everyone, which is why we thought of you. Leave it with me, I’ll get to the bottom of it and in the meantime, enjoy your bride safe in the knowledge if you wanted to, you need never step foot in Russia again.”

“Is that a warning?”

I know my cousin and there is always meaning behind his words, and he says abruptly,“Wherever you are, Ivan, I hope it’s somewhere well protected because things like this don’t happen without warning. Something is going on, and Russia is not the safest place right now. Rival bratvas are edgy and looking over their shoulders. If you return, I’m guessing you won’t make it out of the airport. Just stay safe cousin and I’ll call you when it’s clear to return home.”
