“Help me?”
“Yes, he said if I did, he would help you get better jobs. He would make you rich.”
“How many times did you fuck him, Belinda?”
She shrugged a shoulder. “Just once.”
I began to approach her because I knew without a doubt that was a lie. I could see it on her face. She backed up until she was against the wall. “How many times did you fuck him, Belinda?”
“Alex, please! I did it for you.”
“The fuck you did! You selfish bitch! How many times, Belinda?”
“I don’t know. Eight or nine times, I guess, but it was all for you!”
The urge to punch something exploded out of me, and I put my hand through the wall about two feet from her head. She squealed and covered her face. “I’m not going to hit you, Belinda, but when I’m done with you, you are going to feel like I did. Get out! Now! You can come back for your shit later!”
“Alex!” She grabbed my arm as I began to walk away, and I shook her off.
“Don’t touch me!”
“But Alex,” she cried, tears streaming down her face. Who knew if they were real or not. I didn’t care if they were. “I did it for you!”
“Bullshit! You did it for you. If you want to do something for me, then get the hell out of my life!” I shouted at her and then went back into the bedroom and slammed the door. When I came out thirty minutes later, she was gone.
I lifted my face to Mya. “Belinda told me they had been together eight or nine times. She said she was doing it to help my career. She begged me to forgive her, but I don’t do cheating. I have no tolerance for people who are not faithful. Now, she’s trying to make it look like I’m the asshole and that I made her do it—but I didn’t. I swear that I didn’t.”
Mya studied me for a moment, then stepped forward until she was only inches away from me. “I’m sorry that she did that to you, Alex. I believe you when you say that is the truth.”
“Do you?” I wanted her to believe me more than I realized.
She nodded, her palm coming up to cup my cheek. “I do.”
I took hold of her by the hips and pulled her forward so that her body rested against mine. “Thank you for believing me,” I paused. “And I’m sorry for how I freaked out back here. I was just so angry at your comment that I couldn’t think straight until I told you the truth.”
“I can understand that, but next time, just talk to me. You don’t need to drag me away to a secluded hallway. You could have said this right there.”
I curled my hand around her neck. “Yeah, but I couldn’t have kissed you like this out there.” I brought our lips together without another word, and she leaned into me. I loved how her body felt against mine and wished like hell that we were naked.
After a few moments of kissing, we parted, and I smiled at her, “Come on, we need to get back to the crowd before I do something stupid.”
“Stupid?” She asked, as her brow lined.
“Yeah, stupid, like find a way to get your naked.”
She stepped back but gave me a saucy grin. “What’s so stupid about that?”
“Oh, there is nothing stupid about that. It’s doing it here with all these people around.”
“Ah, there is that.” She said as we started to walk back down the hallway.
“But things might change when there aren’t so many people around.”
She laughed. “Is that a promise or a threat?”
I curled my hand around her arm and spun her back toward me. “That’s a promise, Angel.”
She stared at me as if debating something, and then she smiled. “I hope you are a man of your word.” She took a step away. “I’m going to use the restroom. I’ll be back shortly.”
