I nodded, “Let me guess, you’ve done work there before?”

She laughed, and the sound went straight to my dick. “I have, but that’s not what I was laughing about.”

“What were you laughing about?”

“I live in The Chadwick.”

I jerked back, happily surprised to hear this news, “No shit?”

“I moved there about a year ago.”

I leaned closer to her, “Now you have no excuse to say no.”

She eyed me carefully, cocking her head to the side, “What does you living in the same building as me have to do with how busy my schedule already is?”

“Well, you don’t have to travel. All you have to do is come to my apartment. You could even come in your pajamas.” I said with a grin.

She shocked the hell out of me when she responded, “That probably wouldn’t work since I don’t wear pajamas.”

A possessive growl almost burst from my mouth, but I held it back and instead grinned and replied, “Even better. I have no problem with you coming to my place in your birthday suit.”

She laughed, “Oh, I’m sure you wouldn’t.” Just then, Diane returned to the table, and both of us gave her our attention. Should I feel guilty about that comment to Shelby? Maybe, but she didn’t seem to feel guilty about hers, so why should I?

“I’m sorry, but I have to go,” Diane muttered as she grabbed her jacket off the back of her chair.

“But you just got here,” Shelby replied.

“I know, but my asshole boss needs me to come back and help him with a project.”

“I hope he’s going to give you a good bonus for this,” I stated, and Diane glanced at me, but her eyes cut away quickly.

“Oh, I promise you, he will.” She yanked her purse off the table and then leaned forward to brush a hasty kiss over my cheek before she went around the table and hugged Shelby.

I had a feeling she was saying something to her because as they broke apart, Shelby nodded and then glanced my way briefly. A moment later, Diane was gone, and the server arrived at the table with a tray full of food.

“Damn her!” Shelby muttered as she looked at all the food.

“Is all this food for you?”

She quickly shook her head, “No, I didn’t order any of this. Diane did, but I guess now I get to not only eat it but pay for it.”

“This is more food than I have seen Diane eat in the months we’ve been dating.”

Shelby chuckled as she reached for a fork, “Yeah, she hides the way she eats. I, on the other hand, do not. Grab a fork and dig in. Even I can’t eat all this food alone.”

While we began to eat, I asked Shelby questions about how she got started in design, and I told her I’d gone over her website very meticulously. She seemed impressed that I had taken the time to research her business, and while she was businesslike, she was also friendly, open, and sexy as hell. God damn, was she sexy, and she probably didn’t even realize it.

We finished most of the food and had another two rounds of drinks. When the last one arrived, Shelby stared at her glass for a moment before asking, “Zeke, did you know who I was before Diane got here?”

“I did.”

“Is that why you sent the drink? Because you were trying to butter me up to take you on as a client?”

“Yes. Why? Did you think it was for another reason?”

“Of course I did. When you first approached the table, and I realized who you were, I had some not-so-nice thoughts about you.”

I chuckled, “I bet you did.”
