“Fine, you can walk me home, but only because you’re going to be living in the same building as me anyway. I don’t normally let strange men walk me home.” I couldn’t believe that I was saying this to him, but the truth was that I was enjoying my time and conversation with Zeke more than I had ever thought possible.

Not only was he handsome, but he was attentive, funny, and very knowledgeable in marketing. I could probably learn a thing or two from him for my own business. It was apparent that I had misjudged him and his relationship with Diane. It was now evident that they held long intellectual conversations and spent lots of time listening to one another.

I didn’t want to admit it, but I was somewhat jealous of my friend.

Not only because Zeke liked to have conversations but because he was causing my libido to skyrocket, and I couldn’t wait to get home and pull out my favorite vibrator. I knew that tomorrow, I would be kicking myself for being a horrible friend, but tonight, I was going to take advantage of the sexual fantasies this man was bringing to life in me. The moment I closed my door, I would drop my wet panties and turn that baby on to high speed as I pictured Zeke’s sexy voice and come hither eyes.

I threw back the rest of my drink, realizing as I did that I was feeling the effects of the alcohol very strongly as I tried to remain standing upright.

My mind instantly returned to my previous sexual thoughts, and I had a pretty good feeling that tonight, I’d be having multiple orgasms thanks to this man beside me. Would he think it odd if I told him thank you now?

Out on the sidewalk, I chuckled to myself as I snuggled deeper into my coat. It was cold outside, but the alcohol in my system kept me from feeling too much of it, although the cold breeze whipped around my head, and I turned my face away from it. Accidentally, I bumped into Zeke, and his hand came around my waist to hold me upright. Man, he must think I’m a total lightweight, but what he didn’t know was that I’d had two large glasses of wine before I even left my house tonight. So after two glasses of wine and four rum and cokes, I was feeling pretty damn good.

His arm around me also felt pretty damn good, and for a moment, I let him keep it there. Then I remembered Diane and stepped away from him, lifting my face into the wind as if punishing myself for forgetting that this man was off-limits. He was Diane’s boyfriend. I could not be hanging on him or thinking these kinds of thoughts about him—although Diane would understand that he was trying to get me home safe. She would want that, right? Yes! She would expect that he act like a gentleman.

I glanced at Zeke, he had his hands tucked into the pockets of his long heavy winter coat, and he stared down the sidewalk in front of us. As if he knew I was looking at him, he shifted his gaze to me. “Yes?”

A plume of smoke drifted from his mouth, and I wondered what that hot mouth would feel like on my cold body. Holy crap! I jerked my eyes away, swaying to the side slightly, but catching myself before my body took a nosedive and fell into the gutter. The gutter! Ha! That’s where my mind was right now—in the drunk gutter.

I started to laugh and slapped a hand over my mouth. When was the last time that I had been drunk? I honestly couldn’t remember, but damn it felt kind of awesome.

The husky sound of his laughter caused a shiver to course down my spine, and I picked up my speed walking. Zeke didn’t have any trouble keeping up with me with his long strides, and that made me wonder what those legs would look like uncovered. Gah!

Neither of us spoke until we reached The Chadwick building, and then he held the door as I unlocked it. I hadn’t meant to allow him in. When we left Tucker’s Tavern, I had intended for Zeke to walk me home—to the building—not to my door. This wasn’t a date, and I sure as hell couldn’t invite this man into my apartment.

Even in my drunken haze, I knew that was crossing a prominent line in my friendship with Diane.

However, here I was, stepping into the elevator with Zeke beside me and hitting the number 2 button.

“Second floor?” He asked with a chuckle.

“Yes, I was offered an apartment on the sixth floor, but I’m not a fan of heights, so I waited until a unit on the second floor became available.”

“You don’t like heights, huh? So you aren’t into mountain climbing or sky diving?”

I laughed. The mere thought was rather preposterous. “Hardly, although put me behind the wheel of a race car, and I could show you a thing or two.”

The elevator door opened, and he followed me out. Why was I showing him where my apartment was? I should have turned around, pushed him back into the elevator, and said goodnight—but I didn’t.

He didn’t speak until we stopped at my apartment door, then he looked at the gold plated number attached to it, “2-A, huh?”

“Um, yes.”

“I knew we were going to be neighbor’s, but we really are going to be neighbors.”

I frowned, “What are you talking about?”

He leaned forward, “So you like to go fast, huh?”

I blinked and reared my head back at the swift change of subject. “What are you talking about?”

“You told me that you could show me a thing or two if you were behind the wheel of a race car.”

“Oh, yeah!” I laughed as I turned to unlock my door. It took a second to get the key into the lock, and then I stepped inside and expected Zeke to follow me, but he remained in the hall.

I unabashedly let my gaze drift down his tall frame and took in the expensive loafers he was wearing. When my eyes lifted back up, Zeke was staring at me with such heat that it should have melted me on the spot.
