She came to stand beside me. “Why are you being so difficult?”

“Why are you?” I sat up and put my feet on the floor. “You could have stayed at my place and not run away before I could talk sense into you.”

“You don’t need to talk sense into me. I’m thinking sensibly. You’re the one that is not.”

I reached out and grabbed her wrist and pulled her toward me. I was going to deposit her on the couch beside me, but instead, I brought her to my lap.

“What are you doing?”

“I want to talk to you, and I can’t see you well up there.”

“What?” She asked tensely.

I stared at her, trying to formulate a response, but nothing came to me because all I could think about was kissing her. I curled my hand around her neck and pulled her toward me. She resisted at first, but the moment our mouths met, she melted into me with a whimper, and her arms wrapped around my shoulders.
