She pulled away once more, this time stepping back. “There is much to say, but for the time being, we must return.”

“Yes, you must be frozen.”

She clutched herself. “I am.”

Patrick removed his coat and placed it on her shoulders, then helped Sarah onto her horse. He looked up at her, admiring her for the goddess that she was.

She gazed down at him. “You’ve stolen my heart, Patrick Day.”

“And you have stolen mine, Sarah Crawford.”

Mounting his horse, they returned to the estate, the rain still pelting down. Upon returning, Reginald helped her off her horse as he’d dreamed of doing earlier and entered into the estate, a soggy mess.

Sarah had shock written on her face as soon as she saw the Duke of Faversham standing there, hands on his hips.

“What has happened?” the duke asked.

Patrick stepped forward to explain. “Lady Sarah’s horse got caught in the woods. I went back to assist.”

The duke frowned. “What a remarkable series of events. I’m sure you’ll delight in telling the other guests of it over dinner.”

Patrick nodded his head. “That I shall.”

“And I’m sure you’ll be pleased.” The duke smiled. “Lord Kelly Spencer will arrive this evening. The two of you will have much to speak of.”

Patrick turned to Sarah, who had fear in her eyes.
