“That’s good,” Louisa said hesitantly. “But Isaac, I will not lie, I overheard your when you were talking, I heard you say disappointment, something close. Isaac, you are not and never will be one.”

His lips twitched. “I did not mean,me, Louisa. I meant that I hope the Lords of London will not be disappointed with the polices I put in this year. They want to raise taxes on the people, I donot and will not. Some of them can onlystretch a shilling so far.”

Relieved, Louisa smiled.“I misspoke, Isaac, my apologies. But I am glad that you are not doubting yourself anymore.”

Isaac gazed over the tree line.“We’re not too far from London. Did you say that you have never been to London?”

“Yes,” she said, then flushed. “But you don’t have to go to any trouble, Isaac.”

As they had privacy, Isaac held her face. “It’s not any trouble, Louisa, and I want to take you there. London is a wonderful place, and it is high time that you see the best parts of the country we live in.”

The headed down the knoll, with unhurried steps and Louisa asked, “Where else have you been in England?”

“I have travelled all over, butaside from London, I do love Oxford, Nottingham, and Bath,” Isaac said. “But Bath has a special place in my heart.”

Louisa brushed closed to him.“Any particular reason?”

“It’s peace,” he said while he rested a hand on the small of her back. “It’s all open spaces and country lands, and it is not as busy as thehustle-bustle of London. I would love to take you there one day.”

The thought of going to a different section of the country felt fantastic to her, and she allowed herself to dream about it. Far away enough that the inquisitive eyes of the peerage would not judge herand Isaac. The notion that she would be free to show him care and attention in public felt tempting beyond reason.

She spotted the carriage at the gate, but their stepsslowed. “I think I would like that, just as I would like to see a special place in London that you hold dear to you.”

He quirked his head to her.“Just one?”

“Yes,” she smiled. “One that is most precious to you. I do not think that I will be back in London another time, so take me to a place you love.”

“There is one, the Templenear the Thames,” Isaac said. “The Temple was the property of the TemplarKnights, named in honor of the famedSolomon's TempleinJerusalem. It is a simple set of churches, but it holds annals of history withinit. It will not take time to get there, are you ready to come with me?”

Holding onto her bonnet and smiling, Louisa said, “Yes. Lead the way.”
