Thomas chuckled.

“I can’t see these two doing something untoward with us outside the door. My brother is a respectable man. Now, Your Grace?”

Galliston looked ready to argue again, but then he looked towards Lady Dunley, who gave him a slight nod. The duke sighed heavily and headed towards the door.

“All right. I’ll go along with this. But if anything happens that means my engagement is done for, I’m going to make sure that everyone regrets doing this.”

Richard didn’t doubt that. But he was glad when Galliston left the room, Lady Dunley following behind him. Thomas turned to his brother.

“Do you need me to stay as a witness?”

“We’ll be fine. You just make sure Galliston doesn’t come storming in.”

“Of course.” Thomas squeezed his brother’s shoulder. “I’ve got your back.”

It had been a while since Richard had heard that. And he was very glad about it right now.
