“What are you saying?” Marjorie frowned. “Are you implying they’re in love?”

“Don’t you think that’s the case?”

“I highly doubt it. Richard and Isabel see each other like they’re brother and sister. I doubt that’s going to change. Besides, Richard’s a member of the gentry. A marriage between them would be very frowned upon.”

Galliston scowled.

“That doesn’t make me feel any better, Lady Dunley. Sidney is not someone I want around your daughter. I don’t care about their previous relationship; that stops now.”

“You would prevent her from talking to a friend?”

“If it means I’m not having to worry if she’s straying.”

Marjorie gasped.

“Isabel would never do that. She cares greatly for you, and she’s very loyal. The only person she’s going to marry is you.”

Galliston grunted.

“I hope that’s the case. Because if I find out Sidney’s been around Isabel again, I’m going to make sure he regrets it.”

Marjorie wasn’t sure what to say to that. But she could only hope that Isabel hurried up and joined them because the tension was settling on her shoulders.

Of all the men she could find attractive after her husband’s death, why did it have to be the man her daughter was going to be marrying? She really needed a husband of her own.

Or a holiday. That would clear her head. Then maybe she wouldn’t look at the Duke of Galliston and wonder things that would make the whole of London horrified.
