I see him shrink a little waiting for me to respond. I was expecting to want to freak out on him but I’m surprisingly calm about the situation. Dexter runs through my head and my brain remains calm and I’m coming to like this feeling of ease.

“It’s fine, it shouldn’t be that big of a deal.” Izzy’s voice interrupts us as she is walking into the kitchen in her pajamas and bed head.

“What’s not a big deal?” She grabs the coffee pot and pours herself a cup of coffee.

“I was just telling Allison that Andrew is in the wedding now.” I see her stop the mug midway to her lips and slowly turn around to look at Jeremy.

“I’m sorry? What did you just say?” I’m shocked that she didn’t know, and I feel like I should step away, but my feet are glued in place. I see Jeremy sigh and I mouth sorry to him before he answers Isabelle.

“I was going to tell you after your girl’s weekend. Phillip couldn’t make it and my mother suggested Andrew. She made the arrangements already; Allison said it was fine.” She turns to look at me and tilts her head waiting for me to say something.

“Izzy, really its fine. It will be a little awkward with Dex being there, but it’ll be okay.”

She looks at me with apologetic eyes before turning back to Jeremy when he says he has to leave for work.

“I have to get going honey, have fun and I love you so much.”

I smile when I see Izzy’s facial expression soften and she goes up to kiss him goodbye. I don’t know how they keep the spark alive after all this time. Andrew and I were together throughout college and our young adult life, but being with someone throughout high school, college, and young adult life is a lot of work. They have been the inspiration when it comes to relationship goals, everyone wants a relationship with their best friend.

“I’m sorry Al! I didn’t know he invited him to the wedding.” I reach for her shoulder and squeeze it slightly.

“Izzy, its fine, really! Dex will be there, so I won’t be alone.”

I give her the most reassuring smile I can muster up. She squints her eyes and moves up and down me.

“You ready for the day already? What has you up so early?”

Before I can answer her, my phone is ringing, and I look down to see Dexter’s name. I try to hide it before she can say anything about it, but I know she saw his name when she smirks at me.

“Oh, I see what you got up early for.” She raises her eyebrows up and down and smirks at me. I can’t hide my smile and shake my head at her and nudge her in the direction of the stairs.

“Go get ready before you make us all late.”

I press the answer button on my phone and am welcomed by Dexter’s raspy voice on the other end.

“Good morning beautiful girl.” Him calling me that to make sure I know I’m beautiful is one of the reasons this man is so perfect. I hope he never stops!

“Good morning, did you just wake up?” I hear him yawn on the other end of the phone.

“Yeah, I had a late-night grading papers.” The image of him in his bed propped up grading papers with his black square framed glasses on has the spot in between my thighs warm and slick with wetness.

“You didn’t have to call me as soon as you woke up.”

“I didn’t want to start my day without hearing your voice.” My smile comes voluntarily and

I pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming. I don’t understand what I did to make this man want to be with me after all this time.Ouch.

“Did you hurt yourself?” I snap back to his question.

“What?”

“You said ouch, what happened?” I start to laugh.

“I needed to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.”

“You pinched yourself? I’ve seen you do that sometimes.”

“I didn’t realize I did it that much.” He lets out a breath that sounds like a muffled laugh.
