If nothing else, the attack had just confirmed I was right to leave. And that I might already be too late.

Stop being a coward and fight me!I snarled, baring my fangs.

The alpha scoffed. We don't harm omegas. Not even an omega who lives as the hunters’ lapdog.

Great. Werewolf misogyny.

No, you just prey on innocent families,I shot back.

I attacked the alpha again, going for his throat. This time, his clawed hand wrapped around my neck, and he flung me across the room. I hit the ground with a yelp. Guess the “not hurting omegas” thing didn't extend that far.

A furious, inhuman snarl came from Castor’s direction as I heard another body hit the floor.

Before I could look up, Castor was across the room, striking out with his blade at the alpha who had thrown me. A spray of blood hit me in the face, but the wolf turned on Castor, wrapping his claws around the hunter’s head.

I snarled and bit down on its flank, and he reached back to grab me, giving Castor enough time to plunge his blade directly into the wolf’s heart. The beast seized up, sinking to his knees.

The alpha’s golden eyes met mine for a split second, and if I didn't know better, I would’ve thought he was giving me a bitter smile.

He won't stop until he has you,he said with a throaty laugh as blood seeped through his teeth. And he’ll kill every last one of these fuckers if he has to.

I stared at him in dismay.Who?

Part of me was afraid he was going to say Aleko, and that by some terrible curse, my sire was still alive.

Instead, as Castor pulled his blade out of his prey’s chest, the dying wolf answered,Leonidas. Your sire’s brother.

I gasped as a sudden burst of images assaulted me. I wasn’t seeing the Abbey around me anymore, or even seeing through my own eyes at all. Somehow, I knew I was looking through the eyes of another wolf as he ran through the forests at breakneck speed, traversing the cliffs and densely packed elms with ease. I could feel the soft, mossy earth beneath his paws as if they were my own, and every fork and turn in his path imprinted itself in my mind until I could see a great, towering stone structure in the distance. I had never seen the looming spires before, but instinctively, I knew where they were. Where I was going.

This was the place the Graystone pack called home.

As quickly as the vision had began, it ended, and I stumbled forward as if I had just been thrust back into my own body. The other wolf’s eyes met mine once more just before he collapsed and all the life drained from them.

All I could do was stare as Castor approached me. "What's wrong?" he demanded, kneeling down to take my face in his hands. "Are you all right? Did it hurt you?"

I shook my head. It was the truth. I was fine, other than the fact that my ears were still ringing from hitting the floor so hard.

The vision, though…

It still lingered in the back of my mind, the foreign information not yet fully melded with my own consciousness.

There was no doubt in my mind that the fallen wolf had used his final moments to show me where to find his pack, but why? Surely he knew I could lead the others right to their door, but…

His warning was still fresh in my mind.

He won’t stop until he has you.

No. He knew I wouldn’t tell the others, even before I had the chance to come to that decision on my own. Not when it would lead Castor and everyone else into a certain and bloody battle we might well lose, and for what? For me. I was what Leonidas wanted, and there was only one way to end this without losing everything—and everyone—I loved.

"Have you seen Father Marius?" Arrow demanded, his eyes wild. They usually were when he was drenched in blood like he was now, but there was more to his current frenzy than that. I had no doubt it was on the patriarch's account.

"No," Castor answered. That was all it took for Arrow to take off. Castor turned back to me. "What did he say to you?" he demanded, a sharp look coming into his eyes.

I thought of shifting back to tell him, but something made me think better of it. If we made it out of this, it wouldn't change anything.

Instead, I rushed past him and into the hall, looking back as I waited for him.

Castor groaned in frustration, but he followed me. Arrow had left a trail of blood, so it wasn't hard to find him. When we reached the end of the hallway and I saw him facing down the largest alpha wolf yet, the look on his face was more unhinged than ever, and when I got close enough to smell Father Marius's blood dripping from the wolf's jowls, I understood why.
