I snorted.Have you given my proposition any thought?

"You mean your foolish little wager?" he challenged. "The naive ramblings of a child. Your hunters killed my men. My brother."

You killed your men when you sent them to deliver your message, I countered. As for your brother, I think we both know he had it coming. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been out there on his own. From what I understand, most of you don't turn your backs on family so easily. You must have had reason, and given what little I know of him, he gave you plenty.

Leonidas watched me, his expression unreadable. "Let’s say I was willing to call it even and accept you as a replacement. Are you willing to make that sacrifice? Knowing you can never leave?"

I swallowed hard. I had already made my decision, but he seemed intent on rubbing it in.Yes.

He watched me closely, tilting his head. "What a strange thing Stockholm syndrome is."

I growled. It isn't Stockholm syndrome. I just don't want anyone else dying because of me.

"Then you’re a typical omega in at least one regard," he mused. I wasn't sure if that was supposed to be an insult or compliment, either. "Tell me, will these hunters you feel such loyalty to show it in return and come looking for you?"

I hope not,I muttered.

He snorted a laugh. "I suppose we'll just have to see, won't we?"

What are you going to do with me?I asked warily.

He paused as if he was considering it, looking me over once more. "That remains to be seen as well."

I shuddered, but I didn't regret my decision even now. Now, I just had to live with it.

ChapterThirty-Six

CASTOR

When I realized Eddie was gone, something inside me snapped. I didn't even remember leaving the Abbey, but when someone grabbed my arm, I spun around and an inhuman snarl came from my throat. I should’ve chilled out when I realized it was Arrow, but I didn't attack him, so that was something.

"Where are you going?" he demanded.

I jerked my arm out of his grasp. There was no time to waste with explanations, but I still had the letter clutched in my hand, if only because I'd forgotten to leave it behind, so I handed it to him.

Arrow read it over, his eyes widening as they traveled over the text. "That fucking idiot,” he muttered, shaking his head.

"I'm going after him."

"Yeah, obviously, but you need a plan," he said. "Do you even know where he went?"

The fact that Arrow was being the voice of reason probably should have tipped me off that I needed to calm down a bit and think rationally, but I was too far gone for that. "I'll find him. I marked him."

Arrow hesitated. "Let me at least get a unit together."

"There’s no time, and we can't leave the Abbey unguarded," I replied.

I could tell he wanted to argue, but he of all people had to understand why I was doing this. "If it was Marius, what would you do?” I demanded.

He clenched his jaw, and I could see a war going on behind his eyes. He finally breathed a sigh of resignation. "Fine. But I'm going with you."

"Arrow—”

"You might not be my partner anymore, but I'm not letting you go in there alone," he said firmly. "Besides, I'm kind of responsible for the dumb mutt, too."

I snorted. "Don’t tell me you got attached.”

He grimaced in irritation. "Yeah, whatever. Let's just hope your brand new wolf instincts are a decent GPS." He paused. "Now would be a really good time for you to figure out the whole shifting thing, by the way."
