I blinked slowly at him. "Appealing?"

"Alphas have knots," said Arrow. "Which you’re clearly familiar with.”

My face flushed, and I found myself at a loss for a response. He continued, "Alphas have knots, omegas are built to take them, alpha shifters go into rut, omegas go into heat, so on and so forth."

"Heat?" I echoed in disbelief. "Please tell me you’re not serious.”

"You were fine with rut, but heat is too far?" Arrow challenged.

"It's different," I said, my voice hoarse. "It's… I don't…"

"It's not anything to be embarrassed by," Dr. Kelly said, which made me a thousand times more embarrassed. "It would certainly explain some of your recent run-ins with other shifters. You were having similar symptoms when you were attacked by those other wolves, weren't you?"

"Yeah," I mumbled. "I guess I was."

Dr. Kelly nodded. "I’m not surprised. Heat acts as a beacon to any other shifter in the area. Especially alphas."

"So he's a thirst trap," Arrow mused. "Guess that’s a potential use for him."

Now it was my turn to glare at him. Not half as viciously as Castor was, though. He looked like he was about to attack the other hunter.

"Lighten up, I'm just kidding," Arrow said, holding his hands up. "Look, you guys clearly have some shit to work out, so I'm gonna go give my report to Father Marius."

"Take a shower first," Dr. Kelly called after him. "You smell like a blood bank."

He flipped the doctor off on his way out of the room.

I turned back to the doctor because I couldn't quite bring myself to look Castor in the eye right now.

"So what does this mean?" I asked. "Is that why I had a hard time fighting my sire?”

He hesitated. "No. It's more likely that was the result of the sire bond than anything. It's actually quite impressive you were able to overcome it."

I wasn't sure impressive was the right word, but that was probably the thing I was having the least trouble processing.

"So, how do I fix this?" I asked.

Dr. Kelly stared at me in confusion. "I'm sorry. Fix what?"

"The omega thing," I answered.

He blinked. "You don't. There's nothing to fix. Like I said, there's nothing wrong with you, it's just that, well… there are going to be some things to consider before you go back out on the hunt.”

"Things like what?"

He looked up at Castor, and I knew if he needed the cleric’s permission to say whatever it was, it couldn't be anything good.

"Whether you go back out at all," Castor answered in a solemn tone.

"What?" I cried. "Of course I'm going back out! I'm a fucking hunter!"

"You don't understand," Castor said, using a patient tone that put me on edge. Even he was treating me differently after this weird fucking revelation, and it was pretty clear that wasn't a good thing. "If you are an omega, that makes you a beacon to any alpha who catches your scent."

"So?" I challenged. "Isn't that a good thing? Like Arrow said, you could use me as bait.”

"That’s not an option," he muttered. "Most wolves won't willingly attack an omega, but they will try to claim you. There's nothing a wolf pack values more than an omega, and there's no way in hell any of them would just let you go. Even the ones that usually aren’t a problem would see us as keeping you hostage and attack for the sake of ‘rescuing’ you. We’re just lucky that so far, everyone who's encountered you is dead."

I paused to consider his words for a moment. That was not what I had expected his reasoning to be. "What do you mean, they’ll try to claim me?" I asked against my better judgment.
