"I needyou," I countered, kissing him again. He returned it, his hands roving my body hungrily as I continued to grind against him. All of a sudden, he put the brakes on, pinning my arms against the bed. The look in his eyes was dark and predatory, and it probably should have filled me with fear. Certainly not lust, but it did.

"You're definitely an omega," he muttered under his breath.

I scowled. The reminder was unwelcome, especially now. "So that's the only reason you want me now? Because of some chemical werewolf bullshit?"

"That's not true and you know it," he said in a scolding tone. "I wanted you before I got bitten. It just made things a little harder to sort out, that’s all."

His words made me flush again, and when he stroked my cheek, I melted. "Father..."

"I'd tell you to call me Castor, but the truth is, I kind of like it," he whispered against my throat. I wasn't sure if it was his words that made me shiver, or the caress of his lips. Maybe both. "Now, be a good boy and rest. You're going to need it."

The threat had the exact opposite effect of whatever he'd intended, and my head spun. My desire was just losing the ability to compete with the exhaustion, as well as the dull ache permeating my entire body after getting flung into a tree by an alpha.

"Will you stay with me?" I asked.

"Of course," he said, nuzzling my neck as he gathered me back into his arms.

I fisted my hands in his shirt and breathed in deeply of his scent. It was enough to make me dizzy, and all the lingering fear and conflicting emotions from the night faded as I drifted off in his arms.

ChapterThirty

CASTOR

"Well, this is certainly an interesting turn of events," remarked Father Marius as I sat across from his desk. I was a bundle of nervous energy, so I didn't really feel like sitting, but he was a stickler for propriety, no matter what the circumstances.

At least Arrow wasn't around to harass me at the moment, but I was sure he would've been at Father Marius’s side, had the patriarch given him the option.

"Yeah. That's certainly one way to put it."

"So, our Eddie is an omega," he said, sighing thoughtfully as he steepled his fingers in front of him. "And you, it would seem, are an alpha."

I grimaced. I still wasn't ready to come to terms with the fact that I was at least wolf enough to possess certain notable features. Not that being in denial was going to accomplish anything.

"It would seem that way, yeah."

"And how are you feeling about all of this?" Father Marius asked, sounding too much like a therapist for my liking.

"I'm… adjusting," I answered carefully.

"Is that why you left without telling anyone?" he asked, even though I could tell from the disapproving tone of his voice that he already knew the answer to that.

"I thought I was a danger to them. I still do. Shifters at war with their nature are always a threat. You saw how Eddie was, and he’s a fucking omega."

"If that proves to be the case with you as well, there are measures we could take," he said pointedly. “Just as we did with Edmond."

"I know," I muttered. "I thought about it."

"And yet, you elected to run off on your own without telling anyone."

"Look, if you're trying to make the case for why I’m not in the running to be your successor anymore, you don't need to bother."

"I never said that," he corrected.

"You didn't have to."

Father Marius watched me for a moment in silence. "Do you know what it is that made me consider you as my successor originally, Castor?"

"Because I’m the strongest hunter in the Church who isn't a complete psychopath?" I asked.
