I step off the boat once Ade has secured it to the jetty and take in the sweeping view.

Holy shit! Wow, thisisamazing! The vistas here are simply epic.

Calm, softly dark water stretches out before me with a backdrop of majestic mountains in the distance; they’re bathed in warm hues of reds and oranges that seem to deepen by the minute. The sound of water gently lapping at the shore reaches my ears. I take in a deep breath, the air smelling fresh and clear, but there’s also a hint of smoke drifting on the air.

Ade’s arms come around me from behind, and I lean back against him. We soak in the tranquility, watching the colors change in this sky with quiet reverence.

This moment, here with Ade… it’s perfection.

I don’t think it could ever be topped.

Complete contentment fills every cell of my being, a deep-seated peace and a knowing that I’m at the right place at the right time and that all is as it should be.

I never want this moment to end.

But, of course, it does. “We better set up before we lose the light completely,” Ade suggests, turning us around to face the jetty and nudging me gently forward.

The path to the house is softly illumined by solar lights. Our lodging for tonight is on an elevation, stairs leading up to a small wood cabin with a large, open deck. A cozy fire is flickering in a large cast-iron bowl, breaking the silence with its soothing crackling. I welcome the heat of the fire on my exposed skin, taking off my gloves to reach my hands toward it.

Next to the fire pit are a stack of blankets and cushions and a large picnic hamper. Looks like we’re all set up for our star gazing later tonight.

Ade carries our bag to the front door and opens it. The lights are already on and the flames are dancing in the fireplace inside as well. This is divine!

Excitedly, I walk past him into the cabin. It’s rustic and charming, an air of warmth and comfort filling the small space. There’s a large fourposter bed with a thick doona and comforters to one side and a kitchenette with a round table for two in the other. A door at the back leads to what I presume is a bathroom.

“Wow, Ade. You’ve outdone yourself. This is the most romantic getaway ever,” I say, turning to him. A proud smile spreads over his face, as he takes off his gloves and beanie. I launch myself at him and, catching me, he lifts me into his arms, carrying me to the bed and throwing me on it. Laughing, I bounce a few times before Ade jumps on me, claiming my lips, pushing me into the mattress. As soon as his weight on me registers, my core clenches in wanton lust and I grind against him. With our gazillion layers of clothing, though, it’s not easy to do, and I groan in frustration, making Ade chuckle.

“Later, lucida. Later,” he says, gyrating on top of me.

“Now, Ade,” I counter. “Now.”

“You’re turning into a nympho,” he teases.

“Yep. And who’s fault is that? Not mine,” I shoot back, kissing him again, but way too soon he rolls off me and stands up.

His eyes are dilated and hungry. I focus my x-ray vision on his lower half, hoping it will dissolve all the obstacles to his marvelous appendage. Ade shakes his head, amused, and then glances around looking for something and, having spotted a clock on the wall, goes to the window to peek out.

“Come on, my love,” he says, coming back to the bed to pull me up. Good thing too, because I’m a bit like a beached whale in all my layers of clothes.

“The moon is about to rise over the water. I don’t want us to miss it. The conditions tonight are perfect. We might even see the aurora.”

Those prospects get me moving and we set up camp outside by the fire. On a bed of cushions, we wrap ourselves in blankets and spread out the contents of the hamper on a low table. Our hosts, whoever they may be, supplied us with a wide selection of cheeses, spreads and dips, and a variety of crackers and breads. Chocolate dipped strawberries are my favorite, of course. We feed each other as we watch in silence as the full moon rises from the dark waters, creating a sparkling path of light. It’s bright and huge and seems to weave a spell of magic over everything.

This is the best night of my life—seriously!

I snuggle against Ade. His arm comes around me, pulling me closer.

“Is the light from the full moon going to affect our Northern Lights viewing?” I ask, staring at the sky.

“Since the aurora depends on solar activity, it shouldn’t,” he replies quietly, his voice sounding a little strained, his fingers tapping against his leg.

God, I hope he’s not feeling pressured for this night to turn out a certain way. Seeing the northern lights is a speculative activity, but he put us in the best possible location for it… the rest is up to the gods.

“You know, it’s okay if the aurora is a no-show tonight,” I say, trying to ease his tension. “It gives us another excuse to come back here. It’s so magical… I love it!” And it’s no exaggeration. I turn and nuzzle my nose into his cold cheeks. “Thank you. This is the best surprise ever.” Then, I kiss his lips, they’re cold but heat up quickly as we’re rapidly lost in each other.

“Plus, there’ll be the lunar eclipse happening soon,” I add, panting a little for breath, when we pull apart. “So, no matter what, we’ll have an awesome sky show.”

“Yes,” is all Ade says as he lets out a long breath, puffing up the air like a steam engine.
