Tiero wanted to marry me too. Though, he never asked, he just informed me and gave me a credit card with a name that didn’t exist. Jeez, he was so high-handed, but that’s all he’s capable of.

Now more than ever, Tiero must never find me.

The full weight of the consequences if he did comes crushing down on me.

In my euphoria, I didn’t consider what it would mean. It’s a certain death sentence—for Aiden and for me.

But aren’t we already on death row? Perhaps he would have forgiven me for running away. But letting another man touch me? No, he would never excuse that.

Tiero’s wrath would be explosive. His reaction when the blond guy touched my arm in his club leaves me full of dread.

Shit, shit, shit.

If he discovered I’m engaged to another man, all hell would break loose. One or both of them would end up dead. I couldn’t live with that.

Tiero must never know!

A shadow hangs over my happiness again.

It’s nine weeks since I escaped. As far as we know, Tiero still believes I’m in Europe… but for how much longer? Surely, he’s working out that something isn’t right. He’s not stupid.

Am I just buying time before an inevitable showdown?

With a heavy sigh and an even heavier heart, I pull away from the window and slide back under the covers, snuggling back into Aiden’s embrace.

For as long as I can, I will love this man. He deserves nothing less.

The next morning, I wake up to the first rays of the sun shining through the windows. I guess I fell asleep after all. Checking the time on the clock on the wall, I’m taken aback to see it’s already nearly nine. I forgot the sun comes up here so late; it’s quite a novel experience.

The smell of waffles drift into my nose and I sit up in bed. Ade is busy in the cottage kitchen and, not a minute later, comes back to bed, carrying a tray of food.

“Good morning, my beautiful fiancée,” he greets me with a tender kiss to my lips.

“Good morning to you, fiancé.” I smile against his lips. “Do we really have to leave today? It’s so magical here. I want to stay forever.”

“We can come back another time, Sunshine. For today and the rest of the weekend, I have another surprise for you.”

“What? Asking me to marry you wasn’t surprise enough?” I ask in mock outrage.

“I think you’ll like this one.”

“I’m sure. So far I’ve loved all your surprises.”

He reaches for an envelope on the bedside table and gives it to me. I take it with an arched eyebrow. “You’re spoiling me,” I say as I open it. My eyes go wide when I pull out tickets and all-access VIP passes.

“Oh my god, Ade. Are you serious?! We’re going to Brazil? To the Grand Prix?”

I throw the covers back and, not caring that I’m stark naked, do a little happy dance before throwing myself on Aiden to thank him properly.

Chapter Thirty-Four

Gualtiero

IarrivedinSaoPaulo three days ago and have been hanging around the Formula One Grand Prix track since.

I’m buzzing with nervous energy. This is unfamiliar territory, following something on a hunch. I make rational decisions based on facts. But my need for Ella is making me desperate. It’s weak.

After discovering Rhia is likely aware of Ella’s whereabouts, we attempted to get hold of her phone but have failed so far. She’s not letting it from her sight, carrying it with her at all times.
