It’s crazy how quickly he’s become a permanent fixture. I can’t imagine ever being without him.

Ma and Da would have loved Aiden, as would Oma. We’d have their blessings. Something Tiero would have never gotten.

Tiero…

My heart aches thinking about him, my stomach heavy with regret for the way we parted. The distraught look on his face still haunts me, but what choice did I have after he hijacked my life?

Despite everything that happened, and despite loving another man, I still feel deeply connected to him. How will this all end? The lingering uneasiness rattles me, and a chill runs through my body despite the Brazilian heat.

Come on, Ella. This is not the time to think of the inevitable end.

I’m here at the Brazilian Grand Prix with my amazing man on our engagement weekend. I pinch my arm to make sure this is actually real and not some fantastic dream.

Ouch… definitely real.

It still amazes me how accepting Ade is of my feelings for another man. But, I guess, he realizes I could never have lived happily as a Mafia wife… the very notion makes me shudder.

Possessive as he is, Tiero would never have accepted me having feelings for any other man. He would have hunted him down and beat him to a pulp before slowly killing him. And then he would have punished me.

It might all still happen, but I pray to God and everything that’s holy it won’t come to that. But can I really hide from Tiero forever?

Suddenly, the hairs on my neck stand to attention and I forget to breathe.

I feel eyes on me.

Oh, don’t be ridiculous, Ella. This is paranoia brought on by thinking about Tiero.

Still, I turn around and lean against the balustrade, my eyes scanning the crowd. A burst of heat rushes through me, and tingles spread through my body.

No!

An adrenaline rush hits my system, preparing me to run as I search the faces of the people around me for the one familiar one who always causes this reaction.

But there is no one even remotely similar.

Jeez, I really am paranoid. Aiden has this effect on me too. It’s him I’m sensing, right? I can relax. I’m safe.

I force myself to take a deep breath and turn back to the racetrack. Sure enough, a moment later, Ade’s comforting arms snake around my waist from behind, and relief washes over me. It really was Aiden I felt.

I twist around, and going onto my tiptoes, I fling my arms around his neck, smiling up at him. My lips touch his in a kiss that makes me forget all my worries. I so love making out with this man!

Ade pulls out his hand from behind my back and places a bright red Ferrari cap on my head. How did I not see that?

“Is this why you sneaked away?”

“Yes. I saw it when I got our drinks,” he says with an infectious smile. “And it gets even better. Have a closer look.” He gestures to the cap, and I take it off to inspect it. “Wow, it has both driver’s signatures on it. How did you get these?”

“I have my ways.” He winks. “But in this case, Ferrari made it easy. They’re selling signed memorabilia in the merchandise area.”

I put the cap back on my head and launch myself at Ade once more, peppering his face with kisses. “Thank you. You are the best.”

“No, you are, lucida.” He takes my face into his large hands, and immediately his warmth travels through my body, and everything within me relaxes. He kisses my forehead like he has done so many times before, and still, it never fails to make me feel adored and cherished. “Do you want to stay here, or go to our seats?” Ade asks.

“Let’s sit down. It will be fun watching the qualifying from a little higher up.”

As if this trip to the Brazilian Grand Prix wasn’t surprise enough, Aiden also secured us tickets in the only covered grandstand. These normally sell out well in advance, and he’s tight lipped about how he got these seats. Apparently, he won’t reveal his sources, but if I had to guess, I’d say Gary helped.

We walk hand in hand towards grandstand R, and I dig with my free hand in my shorts pockets for earplugs and give a pack to Ade.
