“Yum, this is seriously good,” I moan and feed him the last bite, making sure to smear a little chocolate on his lips.

“Oops, how clumsy of me,” I tease. “I better clean that off.” Reaching for him to pull him closer, I lick the chocolate off his delicious lips and enjoy a sweetly flavored kiss.

Our kiss doesn’t stay sweet for long when Ade’s skillful tongue invades my mouth. All too quickly, I forget where we are and hoist myself up to wrap my legs around his waist as arousal and need pump through my body.

But before I can grind myself on him, Ade slaps my ass and bites my lip playfully. “You’re gonna get yourself in a lot of trouble, lucida,” he says hoarsely as he helps me stand. “Come on. Let’s find our seats before I drag you off to a quiet corner.”

We squeeze along the rows of people already seated and find our seats in the shade. Thank goodness for the cover. Roasting in the sun would spoil this experience.

We watch the cars in silence for a while. Well, actually there is no silence; the engines are way too loud to hear even yourself think, and that’s with earplugs.

Aiden leans over and shouts into my ear. “I need to go to the bathroom. What about you?”

“No. I’m good.”

“You’re sure you don’t want to come with me?” He’s concerned for me because of my earlier wobble. God, he really is the sweetest.

“I’ll be okay,” I assure him.

“Okay. I won’t be long. Stay here.” He stands up and squeezes his way out.

Just then, Carlos Rosales takes to the track again, and everyone around me erupt in cheers. He’s definitely a crowd favorite.

I’m so emersed in Rosales’s drive that I don’t notice Aiden isn’t quick to return. How long has it been? Does he have an upset stomach? He looked okay when he left.

I pull out my phone to check for messages, but there are none. I ring his number, but it rings out.

It’s nothing, I assure myself. It’s loud here, he just can’t hear it.

I take a sip of my water, turning the bottle in my hands over and over.

My stomach quivers. My skin prickles. There are eyes on me, I’m sure of it, but I can’t spot anyone suspicious.

Am I becoming paranoid? I’m in disguise in a foreign country half a world from Sicily… I’m safe.

I let out a long breath, but my gaze constantly wanders to where the toilet building is. Why is Ade taking so long?

I tap my foot restlessly until finally I see Ade come up the stairs. Nothing is holding me in my seat then, and I jump up and rush to him.

I’m so glad he’s okay. I’m not sure what I expected to happen, but I know for sure I’m feeling a hell of a lot better with him by my side.

Chapter Thirty-Six

Aiden

I’mclimbingdownthestairs of the grandstand, glancing back at Ella. She’s safe there. It’s too crowded for anybody to try anything, and the seats are numbered and monitored by staff so nobody should be bold enough to approach her.

Leaving her alone isn’t ideal, but I need to make this phone call and don’t want her listening in. She’s jumpy as it is.

I pull out my phone and check that her location app is turned on. Yep, her signal is bright and clear, and the tracker in her necklace is also broadcasting strongly. It will be fine. I’m only going to be gone for a few minutes, and I can see her the entire time.

I pull up Gary’s number. I need to find out if De Marco is still in Sicily. My gut tells me something is off. We’ve come across too many Italian security-type guys who don’t look like your typical motor enthusiast. I’ve seen the same four men around us repeatedly. It could be a coincidence, but how likely is that? We’re being watched, of that I’m sure.

It’s beyond me, though, how they could have found Ella here. This is a spontaneous trip and no one other than Gary and our pilot knew about it. On top of that, we only arrived last night; that’s not enough time to get here from Italy.

I take out the ear plug and dial Gary’s number. He picks up on the second ring.

“Angel, how did it go? Did she say yes?” he asks.
