Aiden’s mom, Sue, has become a second mum to me, and I talk to her almost daily. While this isn’t her first grandchild, it hasn’t lessened the excitement of welcoming a new member of the family. Unlike Gary, though, she told us she wouldn’t bombard us with messages and to let her know when the baby had arrived.

Another beep from of Aiden’s phone, another groan. “Gary again… Ahh…Happy Anniversaries,”he reads out.

I twist my head, so I can smile up at him. “Happy anniversary, my love.”

Aiden’s eyes go soft, shining with happiness. “Happy anniversary, Sunshine. Thank you for being in my life. Thank you for being mine. You make everything worthwhile.”

Swoon… I can’t help the goofy grin spreading across my face. Before I have a chance to reply, a mischievous glint lights up Ade’s face.

“You know we should lock ourselves in the bathroom and have some fun in that deep bathtub. It’s the last few hours we have completely to ourselves, you know.”

I giggle. “Yeah, let’s do that. Especially with me feeling zero from the waist down.” I look at him pointedly.

“Shit, I forgot about that. I guess this will have to do then.” And he bends to kiss me just the way I love; probing soft lips with the right amount of tongue and suction.

I could do this for hours. Actually, we might have hours before our son is born…

“Take off your shirt,” I tell my husband. “Give me a thrill.”

Aiden gets off the bed, but instead of removing his pesky shirt, he stands there wide-legged stance and arms crossed, his sleeves stretching taut over his muscles. My eyes are transfixed on them and I’m pretty sure I’m licking my lips.

Ohthose arms… even after four years together, they still make me gooey inside.

Aiden clears his throat to get my attention. “Ella Rose Burg. Are you objectifying me?”

My eyes rise to meet his amused ones. He so knows what he’s doing.

“Totally. Have you seen yourself?” I grin. “Now, come on. Take it off. Give me something to focus on for when the next contraction hits.” Not that I’m feeling pain from any of them, it’s more like pressure in my abdomen.

With an exaggerated sigh, he complies. “Only because it’s our wedding anniversary today.” He winks.

I stare at his bare chest, and each defined muscle of his eight pack. Holy shit, I’m a lucky bitch. My gaze zeros in on the tattoo on his chest, reminding me that Tiero is here with us too.

Aiden steps closer and takes my hand, bringing it towards his torso. Slowly, we trace the triquetra knot and the ring connecting all the pieces… no beginning, no end.

“Sorry I’m late.” The door bursts open and Rhia marches in. “Mr. Overprotective had to come home from his night shift. He made me promise not to leave without him and drive in the dark. I swear to God—”

“Oh come on. You love it,” I interrupt my bestie, as I watch my husband pull on his shirt again. What a shame!

“Yeah, I do,” she admits with a beaming smile.

“Besides, you’re not too late. I’m only half dilated.”

“You don’t look like a woman in labor. I think I’ll have an epidural too,” she says, patting her pregnant belly.

We made a pact when we were little that we would have babies at the same time. So when I told her that Aiden and I were trying, she said she would go off contraceptives the moment I fell pregnant. She thought that would give her time to get her head around it.

She didn’t have as long as she expected. It only took Lex four months to knock her up. Everybody who knows them can only imagine the fun those two had trying…. well… at least as much as Aiden and me.

I grin, thinking back to the fun we had on our island in March. It was the perfect spot to conceive the baby.

As Tiero said, part of his soul lives there and with his heart beating inside me, giving me life, I knew this was where it would happen. When we left ten days later, I was certain I was no longer alone in my body.

Sadly, we didn’t make our yearly trip to the island in August, but Tiero would understand. I was too pregnant by then, and besides, Aiden banned me from flying anywhere the moment we found out we were expecting, unwilling to take even the slightest risk.

And just like Aiden, Lex turned into this overprotective and sometimes overbearing alpha male…. actually, they’ve always been that… but they managed to rev it up a few gears. I loved every second… mostly.

Another childhood pact with Rhia was to be there for all the big events in each other’s lives, the good and the bad ones. This is why she’s here now. I couldn’t imagine doing this without her.
