“Phew. I’m so relieved. Please thank Lex for finding this out for me. I appreciate it.”

With that, we say our goodbyes, and I let my head fall against the soft headboard.

I try to sense Tiero, but there’s nothing but sadness filling my heart.

I miss you. I will always love you. Please give up your search for me.

And it’s like I hear his answer back.

I can’t.

Chapter Eleven

Aiden

Thedoorclosesbehindme as I step out into the corridor. Leaning my head against the wall, I let out a frustrated sigh.

Dammit, I didn’t want to leave Riley.

There’s an urgency deep within me to get to know her better, and it seems a waste of time being apart.

But Riley isn’t on board. She all but kicked me out, undoubtedly, wanting to read her card without an audience. Who sent her the flowers?

Shit, does she have an admirer? Surely not… few people seem to know she’s here. Perhaps they’re from Gary?

No. He’s thoughtful, but flowers aren’t his style. I’ll go and ask him anyway.

I head to the elevator and use my handprint to activate the doors.

To access the upper floors of this building requires biometric recognition or a key card like the one I gave Riley.

Riley Emerson James.

Just thinking her name has me smile.

What a fun afternoon it turned out to be, despite the storm and trees nearly falling on our car.

And that episode in the car, when we listened to Joe and Sue get it on? Wow, that was charged. The air crackled between us. Riley felt it too, I’m sure of it. Is that why she rejected my dinner invitation and got rid of me just now?

What happened to her to make her want to avoid me?

Not that she’ll have any luck with that; I’m persistent and patient.

Hmm, maybe not so patient at the moment. I want her in my arms… and my bed. Fuck, I need to jerk off.

If she truly wasn’t interested, I’d accept it and leave her be. But she is. Nothing can convince me otherwise.

A magnetic attraction like ours can’t be denied… not for long anyway. Not once in my life have I felt such an incredible connection to another human being within seconds of meeting them.

I’ve got to see where this could lead… somewhere magnificent, if I had to guess.

When I arrive on the second floor, housing the executive offices, everything is dimly lit, except for the night manager’s office. Jerry appears in the doorway, a mug of coffee in hand.

Shit. Riley has taken over my mind, and I totally forgot it’s one o’clock in the morning.

I rub my temples as I go to greet Jerry.

“What’s up, man?” he greets me. “Did you just get in? I thought you were taking a week off?”
