Taylor was in her element while teaching a class. Everything she said went way over my football-playing head, but I could tell she was lecturing from the heart, not just from her brain. She loved this. It was part of who she was

It was part of the reason I loved her so much.

When class ended, I slunk down in my seat with my hood up so she wouldn’t notice me. When the rest of the students had left, I quietly got up and walked down the stairs. She didn’t notice me until I was almost to the stage.

“If you need to speak to me,” she said without looking up from her stack of papers, “you can meet me in my office hours. I’m heading there now, and—”

She cut off, eyes wide and jaw hanging open. Her silky red hair fell across her face, and for a moment she was too shocked to brush it away.

“Howdy, Professor,” I said. “I was wondering—”

I cut off as she jumped into my arms, wrapping her legs around me tightly and smothering me with kisses. I held her in my arms and thought to myself, Yeah, this is home.

“You’re back!” she said.

“Figured a week in Texas was enough.”

She gathered her things and I followed her out of the classroom. “I thought you liked getting the hell out of Utah in the off-season.”

I shrugged. “Utah’s not so bad this time of year.”

Taylor glanced sideways at me. “March is only a week away, and there’s still a foot of snow on the ground.”

“Luna loves the snow,” I said simply. “And if she’s happy, I’m happy.”

Taylor laughed harder than the joke deserved. “That dog is spoiled rotten.”

“She’s spoiled the exact amount she deserves,” I replied. “You won’t be annoyed that I’m hanging around for the next few months?”

She looked straight ahead while answering. “Well, I’ll have to tell my other three football boyfriends that they can’t come over. But yeah, I guess I’m happy you’re back.” A smile cracked through her expression, ruining the deadpan delivery.

“You know you missed me,” I said.

“I did!” she replied earnestly. “The week you were in Texas felt like a month. I don’t know how I would have survived until May.”

“The three other football boyfriends, probably,” I said as we reached her office. It was messier than the last time I had seen it, with stacks of papers and books covering nearly every surface.

I gestured and said, “We might need to move some of this stuff.”

She cocked her head at me. “Why?”

“To make room for what I plan to do to you.”

She bit her lip in that cute way of hers, eyes sparkling with mischief. Considering the offer. And remembering the last time we had been in her office together.

Suddenly, there was a soft knock on the door frame. The door was open, and a spectacled girl with her hair in a bun stuck her head in.

“Hi, Professor Fox?” she said. “I’m here for the office hours…”

“Give us just a minute, Amy, and I’ll be right with you,” Taylor replied.

“A minute?” I made a show of considering that. “Yeah, I guess I can do that. But you won’t enjoy it as much.”

She shot me a playfully-offended look. “My office hours have been pretty busy lately. Everyone comes by around lunch.”

“That’s too bad.” I lowered my voice. “I was gonna do some filthy stuff to you.”

She bit her lip again. I could see the wheels turning in her head. “I have office hours again at two. Nobody ever comes then.”
