His hands move to my hips, holding me in place as he ruts into me from below. The sound of skin slapping and panted moans fill the loft. His thrusts slow and deepen as he pulses inside me, his cum coating my walls.

“Fuck.”He pulls me down on top of him and covers us.

When I try to move to the side he tightens his grip on me, keeping me on top of him. “Not yet.” He presses a kiss to my temple as our pulses slow.

“Worth the wait?” I ask quietly against his neck.

“Yes, but we’re going to have to do that every fucking day for the next few years to make up for time lost.”

My body seizes at the mention of there being a future for us. Hope once again tries to take root, but that dark voice in the back of my mind reminds me that there are still secrets hidden away in the dark corners of my heart. This time, when I move off him, he lets me get comfortable, pressed against his side.

“What happens up here,” he taps my temple, “when you go dark like that?”

“Just thinking.”

“About?” he prods.

Sighing, I run my fingers over the ridges of his abdomen. “A lot of stuff. Do you think we can get away with lying up all afternoon?”

He chuckles. “Probably but don’t be surprised if Cody ends up with us. And don’t think I didn’t notice that evasion.”

He pokes me in the side but doesn’t press further. After a few minutes of lying together quietly, we both fall asleep.

ChapterThirty-Four

“Should we stop and walk around here?” I ask as we drive past a sign for a state park turnout. The drive has been gorgeous so far, but I’m feeling restless.

“I could stretch my legs,” West says from the passenger seat.

“There are scenic views of the Matanuska Glacier here,” Cherry says. “I’ve always wanted to come explore the area.”

“It’s settled, then.” I pull off into the visitor’s center parking lot and turn off the SUV.

A smile tugs at my lips when I see her hand grasped tightly in Blake’s. He hasn’t let go of her since yesterday when I went to wake them up for dinner and found them naked in bed together. I haven’t had time to ask, but I’m pretty sure I know what happened and nothing has ever made me happier.

West acted put out about sleeping on the pullout with me last night, but I’ve caught him giving them affectionate glances all day. He hangs back beside me while Blake and Cherry lead us down a gravel path into the trees.

“John hasn’t been home in two days,” he says quietly.

Instantly alert, I look over at him. “Do you think he’s on his way up here?”

“Probably. I looked into his parole and he was released a few weeks early. He can travel unrestricted now.”

“Fuck.”

“The last time I had eyes on him was the morning of the tires being slashed.” He clenches his jaw, frustration clouding his eyes.

“So that definitely wasn’t him.”

“But there’s no one else who knowingly wants to harm Vi.”

“Do you think he’s working with someone else? Or hired someone to start harassing her?”

“I don’t know. How would he even have money to hire someone?”

“Could have met someone in jail, or even promised drugs to someone else. It seems illogical, but people will do drastic things for a chance at a high.”

Back when I was fourteen, one of our ranch hands who got caught up with meth ended up letting poachers onto our high elevation fields to hunt elk. All for a fifty dollar hit that he ended up overdosing on.
