Something was wrong.

I’d already changed in the back of the car and destroyed my clothes, so I wasn’t worried about getting the floors dirty.

I raced up the stairs, taking them two at a time until I got to Dad’s office. I pushed open the door to find Cait trying to comfort my father.

“What’s going on?” My gaze flashed between the two of them. There was something on the desk. As I moved closer I noticed it was a cellphone.

Cait glanced up at me. First I saw the glimmer of hatred, but then it morphed into something else. Desperation. “It’s Brianna. I think she’s been taken.”

“It’s those Italian beasts,” my father choked out, his eyes glued to the cellphone as if it was suddenly going to start ringing. He looked awful, and he clearly hadn’t slept.

Jesus Christ.

Would this shit ever fucking end? I was exhausted. Murder took it out of you, and now this! I was this close to just locking my family up so they couldn’t cause any more damn trouble.

“How do you know?” I glanced between them both.

“She came by my apartment, I told her to go to him…”

“After I warned him the treaty would be over if he touched her,” Dad interrupted.

“They deserve to be happy. Bree’s been through a lot.”

“Yeah, well now she’s fucking gone!” Dad shrieked. He looked like he was on the verge of a heart attack.

Cait ignored him and continued filling me in. “I found that on the sidewalk outside my apartment. I knew it was hers, she put a glittery ‘B’ on the back of it.”

“How long ago?”

“I found it about an hour ago, but she left mine at around 5pm.”

It was now almost 4am…

She’d been missing nearly 12 hours.

They could have done anything to her in that time… Lord knows I had just done something similar.

My stomach rolled again.

If someone had Bree and was doing to her what I’d just done to those men…

No. Don’t even go down that road.

“We got surveillance from the building across the street, she was pulled into a van.”

“I swear to you, Sir, Enzo wouldn’t have hurt her.” Cait was so pro Enzo, it almost brought out my jealous side.

“I don’t believe it. He looked at her like he wanted to eat her,” Carrick said behind me, and I realized for the first time he’d followed me in. Of course Carrick would have an interest in this. He’d been promised Bree’s hand years ago, although I’d had no idea that he still thought it would go ahead.

“Um, Sir?” A knock on the door saw Chris and Dominic peering through the crack. Dom pushed in, dragging someone in behind him.

Enzo.

“You,” my father growled, struggling to his feet. He rushed round his desk, his gun drawn and pointed at Enzo.

My relationship with Bree had always been strained, but now the thought that she could be hurt… the thought that they snatched her from outside Cait’s apartment. What if they’d actually been after her? What if they’d mistaken Bree for Cait and this had nothing to do with Enzo? Perhaps Cait was right… Enzo wouldn’t hurt Bree, but no one said anything about Cait. It wouldn’t take a genius to have figured out how close she was to our family. She’d been one of the first on the scene at the fire…

This was exactly why I wanted her to pack up and get out!
