“He’s probably jacked off half a dozen times by now up in his penthouse office thinking about you as his little bitch in heat.”

Valentina turned crimson.

“And then what did you do?” asked Alexis.

“Then I quit my job,” Valentina stated.

“Valentina Jade Sanderson, you did not quit your job on the first day!” Alexis chastised her like an elder sister. “This is your dream job at a top firm. You can’t just quit. What would your parents say?”

“You have to be responsible,” Serena added.

“Says the woman who slept through her own college graduation ceremony because she had a hangover,” quipped Valentina.

Serena blushed. Although it had been more than four years ago, the memory still stung.

“Left your parents stranded at their hotel, too,” Valentina went on.

“We never have gotten to meet them,” Alexis added.

“What did your boss say?” Serena returned the conversation to Valentina’s problem.

“Dick Simson, one of the senior partners, backed him up,” she said indignantly. “He assigned me to work directly under Daniels!” Valentina wailed with self-pity.

“Oh, I know you want to work ‘under’ him,” Serena said lewdly. “Flat on your back under him.”

“Every day! Day in and day out!” Valentina’s lament continued anew.

“Oh, yes. In and out, Ethan.” Serena made vulgar noises to accompany a ribald gesture. “In and out, Ethan. Deeper, baby, deeper.”

Alexis laughed.

Valentina scowled.

Serena decided that tonight was as good a night as any to suggest they all go to a BDSM club. She knew Valentina would resist, but if they could convince her to go she was sure her prim and proper friend would love it. Serena also had a suspicion that Alexis wasn’t as coolly professional as she made out, and a night at The Mile High would be a great opportunity to test the theory.

As she expected, it took Valentina a little while to warm up to the idea, but with a little cajoling they got her out the door and in a cab to the club. It was going to be the night of all their lives, Serena could just feel it.

The Mile High was everything Serena had hoped it would be. The place was classy but hip, elegant but fun, upscale but down-to-earth.

Serena felt giddy.

Alexis looked curious. Imagine that.

Valentina looked furious. No surprise there.

Serena just laughed; she had known her best friend Valentina long enough to know tonight would be good for her. Sometimes Valentina needed to get out of her own head and come down from her exalted, intellectual world of academia and just be a normal mortal once in a while. Magna cum laude at MIT was one part of life; mama cum loudly was another. Valentina needed a lot more of the latter.

“You’re lucky there was no dress code,” Serena said to Valentina. “Most clubs have a leather or latex policy.”

“Or what?” Valentina rolled her eyes.

“Or they won’t let you in.”

“Oh, darn,” she said with sarcasm. “That would have been a tragedy.”

Serena thought Valentina looked fabulous in her work clothes. She was still wearing a pretty mauve chiffon dress and her hair in a stylish 1940s chignon. She had dainty rose-colored pumps that complemented her attire.
