“You’ll do an interview or something later. But I had to get you out of there,” he replied.

“Matt and Jimmy,” she perked up. “What about them? And Blaze?”

“I saw them. They were fine. Blaze is probably behind us on his bike.”

“If anything happens to my band…” she trailed off. “I shouldn’t have left them.”

“Jimmy and Matt are grown men. They’re strong. They’re perfectly capable of handling themselves in a crowd of teenage girls and their moms,” he assured her.

“Ooh boy. Bruce isn’t going to like the optics on this one,” Giselle sighed.

Asher nodded. “I will deal with whatever fallout comes after this.”

“So, basically… you saved my life,” she said slowly. “And now you’re trying to take the fall for me, too?”

Asher glanced over at her in the glow of the dashboard lights. To his surprise, she didn’t have any sassy addendum to her statement. She was looking at him with renewed interest, like she was seeing him in a completely different way for the first time.

“Do you do this for all your clients?” she pressed. She bit her lip.

“No. You’re special,” he answered.

He could feel that tenuous boundary between them slipping with every second she gazed at him with those big brown eyes.

He smiled at her. “Well, this is something to write about, at the very least.”

She giggled. “God, yeah. I’d better get a song out of this!”
