Instead, she made herself back down. She nodded slowly.

“Yes, sir. Well, I would never want to hold us back from what we can really become,” Giselle told him, although she was really telling Jimmy and Matt. Her eyes darted to their faces, and each one gave her the smallest but surest of smiles in response.

“And you’re truly not hurt by what happened at the Greek Theater?” Bruce questioned. “Physically, mentally, spiritually…”

“Nope. I’m good,” she assured him. “Those songwriters have good reflexes.”

“Hopefully their offense is as good as their defense,” the executive replied cryptically.

While the band was still trying to figure out what he meant, Bruce clapped his hands together once and cleared his throat. “Anyway, I’ll leave you to it. This place charges by the hour, after all. Goodnight,” he said, and ducked out.

Giselle, Matt, and Jimmy all peered around at each other in silence.

“That went pretty well,” said Jimmy.

“Better than last time,” Matt laughed.

“Don’t remind me,” groaned Giselle.

“I feel a second wind comin’ on. Do you guys want to jump back in on some recording?” Jimmy prompted them.

“Hell yeah, bro,” Matt said, giving him a fist bump.

“Definitely. But I’m going to take a quick run to the bathroom down the hall. Be right back,” Giselle said hurriedly. She sneaked out, her phone in hand. Once she was confidently out of earshot, she dropped back against the wall and opened a new text thread.

Her heart was hammering away in her chest as she added Asher’s and Blaze’s numbers to the thread. She typed out a quick text and sent it before she could have a chance to back out.

I’m swamped with studio sessions and interviews for the next week, but could we plan for a little inspiration date next Saturday?

Her hands shook as she watched the typing icon appear next to both their names. She wondered how long they would make her wait for a response. And then, the messages appeared:

Of course. Where and when?

and,

We’ll be there.

Giselle grinned and pressed the phone to her chest. She felt her heart pounding away. She was giddy at the thought of seeing them again. But she was going to do it on her own terms. After that almost-satisfying dream about Asher and Blaze, there was no denying her searing-hot attraction to the songwriters. Clearly, her mind was spiraling off to filthy, taboo places, whether she was conscious or not. She had utilized her angst and her longing for all this time, so why not use that lust as inspiration, too?

Her music needed to ‘grow up’ anyway. Maybe that meant delving into her sensual side. She was no innocent teen anymore. She could be a bad girl in the bedroom as well as onstage.

She knew she was playing with fire, of course. The game was to see how close she could get, how high she could stoke those flames without getting burned. She had to retain her professional boundaries, but she needed to push them to their limits.

Like she had told Asher in the car as he calmly drove her home after the concert fiasco, she was going to get a song out of this. No matter what it took.
