“What?” My head snaps to hers, a denial on my lips until I see the knowing look in her eyes. “It’s really new, Katherine. Would you mind not saying anything until Declan and I have a chance to talk about it?”

She pats my palm reassuringly. “That’s completely up to you, and I’ll follow your lead. But may I give you some advice?”

I nod.

“Don’t wait too long to fill your friends in. Sneaking around feels awful and only hurts the people you care about when it comes out in the wash. Take it from someone who knows.”

The crowd goes insane, and I hear the announcer over the sound system. “Sinclair’s at the twenty, the ten. Touchdown Philadelphia. Declan Sinclair just ran it in for sixty-two yards. The Kings win. The Kings win! They beat the reigning champions.”

Katherine and I scream as everyone jumps to their feet to celebrate.

An hour later, we were all still gathered in Coach’s box waiting to congratulate him and Declan on the win. We’d watched the post-game press conference on the big screen TV on the wall and were thoroughly enjoying the rest of the afternoon. When the door opened and Coach stepped in, followed by Declan, we all stood to congratulate them.

Coach kissed Katherine on the cheek and hugged Natalie. It was sweet.

Declan, however, wasn’t as sweet. With laser focus, he found me in our little crowd, crossed the room, picked me up off the floor, and crashed his lips to mine. My arms wrapped around his neck as my feet dangled off the floor before he whispered in my ear, “I think I found my favorite good luck charm.”

“Shut the front door!” Nattie exclaimed.

Followed by, “I knew it!” from Chloe.

This was certainly one way to let everyone in on the status change in our relationship.

Eventually Declan placed me back on my feet just as I heard Tommy ask, “Why’s Declan kissing Belles?”

Murphy cleared his throat to answer. “Well, little man—” Brina immediately covered his mouth with her hand.

In hindsight, we probably should have just let him finish whatever he was going to say because with Tommy’s next breath, he announced, “Declan’s bird is way bigger than mine.”
