Belle shrugs her shoulder. “I know we agreed not to discuss moving,” she whispers, not wanting Tommy to hear, “until after Christmas. But I think it’s the right move for us. We need to make sure we’re safe. The safest place for us isn’t here.”

“I’m sorry, baby. I’m so sorry.”

Belle shakes her head. “Don’t be sorry, Declan. It’s not your fault. It’s just a fact. I already started looking online, and I don’t think we even have to leave Kroydon Hills. We’ll just have to move to your dad’s side of it.” She smiles. “You know, where the giant houses are.”

“I love you, Annabelle Sinclair.” I pull her into my lap and kiss her again. “Hey, Tommy,” I call out.

His curly head turns to me. “What?” He looks confused.

“I love you, little man.”

Without thinking, he responds, “Love you too, Declan.”

With my hand resting on my wife’s stomach, I close my eyes and take it all in.
