“Your water broke.” That was Belles... I think.

“Breathe, baby.” Sam. Definitely Sam.

I reach out, knowing Sam is there. “It’s time.”

He wraps me in his arms, whispering, “I love you, Snow. Let’s go have a baby,” as he begins to usher me out of the box.

As Brady opens the door, Scarlet follows us out. “I’m coming too. Someone will have to keep the family updated.”

Sam looks at me, silently asking if I’m alright with this, and I agree.

It doesn’t take long to get to Kroydon Hills Hospital, but in the span of the thirty minutes, my contractions have started coming fast and strong. By the time I’m wheeled into a delivery room and checked out by my doctor, I’m fully dilated and 100 percent effaced. “Oh my God. This is really happening. I thought the first time it took hours. Days even. I’m not even due for another two weeks.”

Scarlet is on one side of me, and Sam is on the other when the doctor comes back in, looking like she means business in her gown and gloves.

“Okay, Amelia. It’s time to push. Are you ready?”

Scarlet lets go of my hand. “I’m just going to...”

“Oh no, you don’t.” I grab her hand and squeeze while Sam holds my other hand. “Nobody is going anywhere.”

I lean my head against Sam’s arm, scared. “I don’t think I can do this.”

“You’re the strongest woman I’ve ever known, Snow. You’ve got this, and we’ve got you.”

“Okay, Amelia. I need you to push,” The doctor smiles, and I kinda want to tell her to fuck off.

“I’m scared,” I announce.

Sam holds my hand to his chest. “I love you. Now push.”

* * *

Four hours later, Lenny and Bash are the first family members from the waiting room that we let in my hospital room. Sam and I took an hour to ourselves and then let Scarlet back in. She was a trooper during my labor. She never complained once. Even though, according to her, I may have broken her hand, and she’s definitely throwing out her suit and shoes. She’s curled up in a chair with hospital socks on her feet, cradling our son, Maddox, close to her while she watches him sleep.

Sam is sitting on the bed next to me. His arm is wrapped around me as my head rests on his chest, and I lie there exhausted but elated.

When Lenny enters the room, she makes a beeline over to Scarlet then makes grabby hands. “Gimme.”

“Nope,” our sister tells her. “He’s mine. Go make your own.”

While Lenny and Scarlet fight sweetly over Maddox, Bash leans down and kisses my forehead before he shakes his brother’s hand. “Congratulations, brother.”

After Scarlet finally relents and shares my son with his other aunt, Lenny happily brings him over to introduce him to Bash. Beaming, she asks him, “Do you want to meet your nephew?”

Bash gently lifts him from her arms and holds him close to his chest. “You did so good, Amelia.”

Maddox begins rooting around Sebastian’s chest, appearing to be hungry and looking for a source of food Bash won’t be able to provide. “I think he wants his momma, Snow.”

As Bash passes Maddox to me, Scarlet stands and joins us.

“Scar, where are your shoes?” Len asks with a quizzical look on her face.

Scarlet’s eyes never stray from Maddox. “In the trash.” Once she finally looks up, she proclaims to Len and Bash, “He likes me better. Just telling you now. I was there when this little man was born.” She runs the tip of her finger down his nose. “And I will be his favorite.” She kisses his head softly, then squeezes my hand. “I guess I can’t hog him any longer. Annabelle’s been blowing up my phone, claiming it’s her turn. I’ll be back tomorrow. Call me if you need anything.” Then she moves to the other side of the bed and hugs Sam. “Take care of our girl, Sammy.” She whispers something to my husband that I can’t hear before turning back to Len and Bash. “I think Amelia may want a little privacy.”

Lenny leans down and kisses Maddox’s cheek, then whispers, “She might have met you first, but I’m your auntie on both sides, so I get extra time with you, little man.”

Bash places his hand on Lenny’s back, and they follow Scarlet out of the room.

My eyes start to get heavy as I lean back against Sam and let Maddox get comfortable while he latches on.

“He’s so perfect, Snow.” The back of a single finger gets dragged down the bare skin of his little back, causing him to wiggle before he finds his comfy spot and starts sucking like a little champion.

“I never knew life could be this good, Sam.”

His arm tightens around me. “It’s just the beginning, Snow. It’s just the beginning.”

The End
